Version 1.3.6: Under the burning suns
I finished level "Across the Harsh Sands" and when the program tried to load the next scenario "A Stirring In The Night" the following message comes up:
Illegal character found in map. Map cannot be loaded.
Waht is wrong there??

I opened the map (3Night4.map) in the editor, where it also didn't load but I noticed in the console window from which I launched the editor this line:
If you open the map in a text editor and change all instances of "Dyo" to a valid terrain code (see the bottom bit of http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/TerrainLettersWML), such as "Ww" for water, the scenario will load.
Having said that, I haven't had a chance to play that scenario and I've not played the campaign before, so I can't say that changing the terrain from whatever was intended doesn't break the scenario in any way.
Code: Select all
error config: Illegal character in map: (Dyo) 'Dyo'

Overwrite the map file with this fixed one and restart the scenario and it should work.

hmm. I'm having the same trouble with the 1.3.6 version and I'm on PC, not a MAC. I get the same message.
Not only that, but I noted that the lack of water damage for the scenario didn't ever start. I'd played it on the 1.2.5 version and you take 5 damage for every non oasis step during the day on the map, but nothing happened on this one.
I DID notice something extremely odd, and I don't know how I made it to the end with this. All my melee attacks read 0 the entire time. For the elf fighter it was 0/4 melee damage. 4 attacks with 0 damage per attack(by default, you do 1 damage). Once they leveled up, the damage went up to a normal amount.
And yes, they did attack poorly on the melee with those statistics so it wasn't just a numbers anomaly.

There's a message at the beginning of the scenario ("Across the Harsh Sands") explaining this, but there was a bug, now fixed in SVN. See the discussion here: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic. ... &start=660Edward V Riley wrote: I DID notice something extremely odd, and I don't know how I made it to the end with this. Sorry for this, but actually there was no explicit talk about the development version of Wesnoth, and I'm sad to say that I do not have it, so how should I know there was this information given at the campaign-selection-screen?Shadow Master wrote:I think the campaign menu explains all you need to know: "campaign under reconstruction", Clonkinator. And it's mainline, so I guess you can't update the campaign without updating Wesnoth...
Or can we?
That being said, never mind.
