v1.2 lots of crashes to desktop

Post by muxec »

So-called stable version for windows often crashes during the network games. Are there any workarounds?

It crashes randomly, usually just after I press "End Turn", but sometimes in the middle of other's turn.

Did you install the new version over the old version? If so please remove wesnoth entirely and reinstall.
If not please provide some more information eg
Which OS do you use and the error output, in Windows stderr.txt and on mac OS/Linux start the game from a terminal with "wesnoth &>stderr.txt" and post the output here. (not use whether it works on Mac but guess so since it's a UNIX variant.)

Using MS WinXP SP2.

Thanks for the info, I guess it's a problem with the Python AI. Do you have Python installed on your system?
Which scenarion/campaign are you playing?
If you have python installed the AI also needs to be approved there should be a file xxxx.py-untrusted (xxx the name of an AI and not sure about whether it's exactly untrusted but something similiar) this file needs to be renamed to xxxx.py
This is done to avoid untrusted python scripts to be started on your system.

DISCLAIMER *before* renaming you should check whether the script does nothing harmful or that _you_ trust the campaign author.

This particular crash data comes from heavily scripted multiplayer scenario, but even with standard rules game crashes often. If developers need it, I will post more error logs. Should I?

No, python is not installed, unless it was installed by installer for windows.

Python is not installed automatically, but looking a but longer I wonder why it says that the default AI isn't found. If other crashes show additional info please post them, otherwise no need to. With standard rules you mean the standard scenarios? Could you open a bugreport at bugs.wesnoth.org and also post there a zipped savegame just before a crash? (you can refer to this thread no need to repost all info.)

This bug occurs only under WinXP, I did not see it playing Wesnoth for Linux.

Does this crash occur when you are using Default Era with official maps? Does it occur only when you are hosting the game? Does it occur when you observe games? Does it occur in any single player scenarios (which ones)?

It occurs even when using Default Era with official maps. It occurs when hosting and when joining. It happens only under WinXP.

I did not play single in v1.2. I did not experience this bug observing, but I did not observe for long enough to see this bug.

What version of Py should I install under WinXP?

I'm playing Wesnoth on XP with SP2 and i don't have any problem.
I played 2 levels of Sceptre of Fire and 2 stand-alone games against AI without having problems.

Maybe it's just faulty hardware...

It usually crashed at random and the crash disappeared after reload but this save crashes even after reloading...

Pity.

And stderr is just

Should I post bugdata, that windows crash handler attempts to "send to microsoft"? it says

Code: Select all

AppName: wesnoth.exe AppVer: 0.0.0.0 ModName: sdl.dll
ModVer: 1.2.7.0 Offset: 0001e7f4
and than tons of hex data.

Did you follow the advice given in that post? http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=14531
Because the error message you posted does not look like you got no usermade content installed. In which version did you start the campaign? Did you really restart the campaign with a version >1.1.12? The line "error display: could not open image 'attacks/.png' " makes me think that there might be problems with some usermade content. Please make sure that there are no conflicts due to this stuff.
