Yeah - am I supposed to kill the orcs? Just the southern orc? Or just move Kalenz down?
Hope springs eternal.

Feedback on scenarios 1 and 2 (BUGS)

Post by Rhuvaen »

Okay, some feedback here for LOW v 0.4@ (that's what it says on the campaign server) with Wesnoth 0.8.8-CVS:

I usually play on medium/normal, but found the first scenario impossible to complete on that setting, as the enemy practically only recruits level 2 units.

The uprooting (title should be uppercase :) ... there was a bug: Velon's forces attacked me first before joining my side! It was only one turn, but still: it contradicts the story! There could be a little more terrain variety on the southern part of the map where the most fighting is happening, but it's a good enough scenario. The eastern orc starts recruiting late and three units manage to hold his forces for a while, so there is no chance really of getting stuck between several opponents - a twist which would be really nice!

Hostile Mountains: the Troll leader never did anything - no recruitment, no attacks. I should have started a fight with the dwarves to make things more exciting, but instead finished this level with a whopping 430 gold. I really like the map on this level.

Overall I like the scenarios, they're pretty solid unlike some other campaign fare... good work!

Ok,

Mkgego: thanks for the report, the scenario objectives are there on my
machine... I will check again

scott: First scenario: Move Kalenz to the signpost(lower left). Strategically
you attack the southern orc to achieve that and gain experience.

Rhuvaen: If you concentrate your attack there, you should not have any problems
at least on medium. Then again, I have not played on 0.8.8. Can you try on some other version like 8.5 or 8.7?(same applies to troll recruitment on scenario 2)

Regarding Velon, Velon's forces stay in the castle(at least that's what they
are supposed to do) until an orc shows up next to the castle.
Then there is a dialog and the bottom line is Velon's forces are placed
under your command. Use them to hold off the orcs for a while , except for two or so which you should send south.

Velon's forces should not attack you unless
you move a unit next to their castle.

On scenario 2, troll recruitment by the AI is at times weird, but I cannot find and problem withthe WML. This is probably an 8.8 change, as on
previous versions the troll does recruit.

Thanks again for the feedback. I really appreciate.

P.S. when posting changes, I will remove LOW and instead post
it with the full name (Legend_of_Wesmere) when I figure out how this works

Ok, I don't know what's wrong: Used to work fine before I tried the user directory and the campaign server. Now, even in my own PC the campaign is a mess. I'm widthdrawing this from the campaign server(I hope I will be able to do this)
. PLEASE TRY THE latest TARBALL in this forums thread and install on the wesnoth data directory
(/usr/local/share/wesnoth/data/campaigns on Linux, C:\Program Files\wesnoth\data\campaigns on Windows ect).
. If the tarball shows and problems, PLEASE let me know
Meanwhile I will play around to see what's wrong with my installation on the user
and when these are fixed the campaign will resurface on the campaign server.
Sorry for this mess...

found it.

The problem was that you were using the pier tile (terrain letter 'p'), which was removed in 0.8.7. I have uploaded a fixed version of the map Kal5 which changes the pier to '\', the bridge tile with the same orientation as the pier.

Thanks, I am still in 8.5 -cause I read in the forums there may have been a bug in 8.7
I will change it, though it'd be nice to be able to say
If version >0.8.5 ...
else ...
also in the map
Another problem is scenario 1 (caused by my efforts to make last-minute edting changes
to try and get the right backroung map to work) is
.....
[/story]
k # THIS IS RESPONSIBLE FOR NO OBJECTIVES IN SCENARIO 1: just remove the k
# and the objectives should appear

objectives="
Victory:
@Reach the signpost
Defeat:
#Death of Kalenz or
#Death of Landar or
......

Anyway, thanks again!

MadMax: Wow, you finished it!
Revelations is the first of the next scenaria-it's not in the version posted.
It is done and will be released in the next version along with hopefully another 3-4 scenaria which are really one theme. It was not released because it is a major spoiler at this point.

Should be well over 20 scenarios, right now it looks like 30 or so.
One idea is to split it like SOTBE
and have a "Book I" spanning the 2nd orcish invasion to
the first period of peace plus a "Book II" which is the second period of
troubles, including Mountain Lake, Kalenz meets Delfador until
the times of HttT (ending with the recapturing of the forest as in "Elves Besieged" of HttT). The first period has(apart from those posted) another 8-9 scenaria(all except 2-3 are fighting scenaria), [Revelations (by Crelanu), news from the front, the revival of ancienat alliance,
the king must die, liberation, payback, elvish assasins, end of war]
plus maybe a council scenario. Revelations makes most of the plot
predictable.
For the second period we have 6 scenaria planned right now
(the return of trouble,Mountain Lake, Delfador,(no name yet),
,Meet the prince,a mission for the brave)

The second period can obviously grow, but these are the scenaria
we have for now. Maybe it would be better to split, especially
since one cannot carry the gold from the first period and you lose
all your troops at the end of the first period.
But bugfixing comes first

Version 5.1 is on the server(still incomplete). Not sure how balanced the last scenarios are though.
