The Rise of Wesnoth typos

Post by JMichael »

I believe the following to be typos in the dialog in "The Rise of Wesnoth".

I could not figure out how to "edit" the SpellingMistakes Wiki page.

I could not find a reasonable place to post this.

05_The_Oldwood.cfg:

He led our escape to the this land.
delete "the"
Albeit, after being down in that hole for so long...
I don't think this is a place where "albeit" can be used in place
of "although".

11_Southbay_in_Winter.cfg:

...if you swear...that you will let all of the Wesfolk who may come
into the city, and to allow them to participate in what must happen next.
delete "to": "and allow them"
maybe "and will allow them"

17b_Lizard_Beach.cfg:

After a long trek Prince Haldric, and his companions find themselves on
a sunny beach.
  • I think either one less comma, or one more:

    either
    • Prince Haldric and his companions find themselves
    or
    • Prince Haldric, and his companions, find themselves

23_Epilogue.cfg:

neither could stand be long separated from the other
    • neither could stand to be long separated from the other
    or
    • neither could long stand to be separated from the other
bards would sing the ‘The Breaking of the Pact’
  • delete "the":
    • bards would sing ‘The Breaking of the Pact’

I disagree about the 'albeit' thing, to be honest. It seems to fit well enough.

I concur with all JMichael’s recommendations (edit: except for 17b, for which I concur with ancestral below).

I would actually move the comma to after trek in this one:

17b_Lizard_Beach.cfg:
After a long trek, Prince Haldric and his companions find themselves on a sunny beach.

http://en.wiktionary.org/wiki/albeit
Unlike although (which can introduce a noun phrase, an adjectival phrase, an adverbial phrase, or a subordinate clause), albeit can introduce only a noun phrase, an adjectival phrase, or an adverbial phrase.
I don't have a strong grasp of English grammar, just a very long history of hearing and reading. The Wiktionary entry explicitly excludes one case from the otherwise identical uses of "although" and "albeit". Other web sites (or at least, forum posts) declare that the two are synonyms.

Maybe more significant, the case in point is an instance of a character's speech, which can be flawed because of the character's background, because of the stress of the moment, or because the character is deliberately misspeaking.
After a long trek, Prince Haldric and his companions find themselves on a sunny beach.
I agree with putting a comma after "trek". I was able to accept no comma there.

As a separate point, I think there should either be no commas in "Prince Haldric and his companions find", or there should be a pair of commas setting off "and his companions". I prefer no commas -- the companions aren't just incidentally along on the same trek.
