New writers and cooling heels

Post by Mathius »

So I have played the majority of the main line scenarios and a few of the add-ons like Tale of the Wose, Dead Water and such. I have explored the servers and am interested in contributing. However the servers seem to be a bit vague as to who is hiring so to speak and a number of posts don't seem to be posted by serous developers or are perhaps outdated. The writing for Wesnoth could definitely use some work and I was wondering who is recruiting so to speak and what need doing. I don’t suppose that I am the only one that would be interested in contributing without the time or technical ability to create a whole new scenario myself.

I think that there is a whole pool to talent that wesnoth is missing because the average user just can’t find the opportunities

This is OSS. We don't recruit actively, so much as people come in who 'scratch their own itches' so to speak.

So, if you see some writing that you feel could be improved, improve it. Go into the scenarios, improve what you feel needs improving, and post the results. If a developer likes your work, it could be included.

Back to work. Current projects: Catching up on commits. Picking Meridia back up. Sprite animations, many and varied.

If you want to contribute to mainline, then we can find some specific bits of dialogue or other text that needs work for you. A few examples I can think of right away:

1. That bizarre and out-of-character (IMO) discussion on turn 3 of 'Home of the North Elves' in HttT.
2. The silly fanatical dialogue of the hostile elves in 'Vengeance' in TSG.
3. EI in general. :augh:

If you think you've managed to improve some text, you can just post your changes in pretty much any format you want if it's a campaign I have my hand in (DiD, EI, HttT, Liberty, SoF, SotBE, TRoW, TSG) and I'll be likely to apply the changes if they seem like an noticeable improvement to me too. I'd suggest doing a few small portions first (instead of a massive pile of changes) just in case there's stylistic disagreements or such.
