Wesnoth Lexicon

Post by stupidjaguar »

I don't know if I posted this in the right forum or not, but...

I've been a devoted fan of Wesnoth for years. It's true that there are long stretches of time in which I cannot play due to attending college. But Wesnoth captured my imagination and never fails to hold my attention.

For my Linguistics class, our task is to compose a lexicon of vocabulary from a technical area of our lives, such that the words acquire a meaning that is only relevant in a certain context. Of course, Wesnoth was perfect - maps, units, horsemen, terrain, AMLA, WML, trait, HP, XP - these are all words (or treated like words) that have a specialized meaning.

So, I have two options:

a) If there is an extensive "glossary" of sorts for Wesnoth available, I would find it very useful
b) If there is not - I will end up writing it as my project, and will make it available to Wesnoth once complete

Cheers!

Thank you! This is not exactly what I need, but it will be useful. These words and phrases are acronyms and slang - they're not necessarily part of the formal Wesnoth lexicon. The Wesnoth vocabulary includes 'trait' 'recruit' 'keep' 'ability' 'recall' 'scenario' 'campaign' 'damage type', and so on. The Wesnoth glossary page is a good example of what I'll be doing, but unfortunately it's not very long - only a few dozen words.

I've never seen or heard of any other resources in this particular area of the project, so I guess from here on out it's a clean slate. Good luck. :)

There's not a lexicon, per se, but it *should* be the definitive guide to what absolutely has to be in one;

Ironically, the results of your project (or something very much like it) should probably be included in the manual.
