Use lots and lots of dwarves [everything else sucks in caves], with one or two of your healers recalled, and be prepared to go way into debt. You should have at least one or two higher-level dwarves after "The Lost General".

Here's a replay I finally have from "normal" difficulty...although I did get extremely lucky -- when I played this on "easy", I'm pretty sure that I had to wade through hordes of troll warriors. (which, incidentally, are hands down the most terrifying unit in the game) I would have lost considerably more dwarves than I did had there been more Troll Warriors this time around (I would also probably have had to recall my Great Mage to help fight them -- an expensive proposition!)

To answer your questions specifically,

(1) you can't do anything about the fact that Li'Sar stops recruiting troops; just be prepared for it.

(2) see my replay. I usually get Delfador and Kalenz out of the way on the first turn (when you're surrounded); later I use them to drain HP from tough enemies, but I use a dwarf escort to make sure that they can't be surrounded and killed by Trolls. (if I can, I try to actually get them behind a line of Dwarves before the turn ends)

(for the attachment: apparently the Fascist Webboard Software [tm] doesn't allow you to upload a file without an extension; if you compress it with gzip or something similar it should work)

this scenario seems like the kind that would make people like me stop playing. I like a challenge, but i do not want to have to go back and play from scenario 3 specifically for this scenario, escpecially since i actually have good units. The main problem is the troll warriors, but another problem is the lack of villages inside 'your' cave.

From what i tried, dwarven horde was ineffective, because even ten or twelve dwarves cannot hold back three troll warriors and a few ogres. My advanced units can either hold the right and die, or go up the left and get to the enemy, but not in time.

In short, arghhh!!! i hate this level!!!

I held back the trolls with five regular dwarfs, dwarfish steelclad and a healer trying to circulate the units. That went fine.
