Wesnoth video commentaries on youtube

Post by Mortles »

I'd like to make a little anouncement here(although I'm not exactly sure if this should be posted on this part of forum). I just started casting wesnoth matches and posting them on youtube. I'm trying to provide not to profesional, relaxing style of commentary for mid-tier players and even for beginers who know only the basics of the game.

If you think you'd like the idea, visit my youtube chanel, http://www.youtube.com/user/TheoEvian. There is only one commentary now, but I will be adding more later. I'm intending to make about one per week. I would be thankful for any feedback or sign of appreciation.

If you'd think, that you have a replay which is for some reason interesting, post it, as well as your feedback in the topic down below.

An also, I have to point out another guy who is trying to do the same thing. He is called Neki and his chanel has much more content than I do. His chanel is: http://www.youtube.com/user/brutalwesnoth. He is also like thousand times better player and comentator than I'm so go and check him out :) .

It's really great to see those Wesnoth commentaries on YouTube, both neki's and yours. I have a few tips for you:
You're moving the camera around very often (especially at the beginning of the first part). This makes watching very hard, because you have no time to look at what you want to see. In my opinion it would be better if you keep it more smooth - as you began in the second part.

Another thing is that you tell us more what happens rather than why it is happening - it's a bit similar to neki's first videos. What happens we're also able to see, but it's more interesting to understand, why they're doing this. Of course, neki has a big advantage on that point since he is somewhere about place 15 (IIRC) at the top of the ladder. But nevertheless, I think it would be great if you could try to understand, what those players are doing there - maybe you first analyze the replay (then there wouldn't be those OOS messages either :P ) and then comment it.

Besides, I'd really like to see one of you own games. A player as neki wouldn't really like posting commentaries of games of players who aren't in the top ladder list, but you said of yourself that you are around place 100. I think that I'm not the only one who would like to see how players like you are playing. Also, if you play by yourself, you now what you have done. :P

So... I think I'll visit your channel every few days and look if there's something new :) Keep your work on!

small advice:first when you make one of those try avoiding the ummm...(no ofFence) when I make something like that I prefer writing what I'm going to say on paper then just sit back and read it like a scenario everithing is prepared and happens exactly and second try making a few and choose the one that got best

Alfginnar:
I do not think so. It's nice to know that the one who makes that commentary is one who understands it. Besides, it's nice to hear that he really did it by himself and doesn't read something that could be written by anyone - or read by anyone ;)
Did you ever listen to a commentary of neki? He's really, really good at it and in the more recent ones he even doesn't look at the replay before starting the commentary. And that's really great, because he is able to speak inspirational so you're really in the match :)
