They are killed with ease by 1 or 2 Ghosts at night.
They drain hp, have a cold ranged attack and take almost no damage.
A Fighter, in the other place, has a ranged fire attack and can defend himself against Ghosts.
Also, his sword, blade, is better for attacking UD and Ghosts.
But the best ghost killer is the Drake Burner, of course. There is no one "perfect" unit that is useful enough to be spammed, that's the brilliance of Wesnoth's balance. (I would not recommend getting too many clashers against Undead for a different reason: DAs can kill them rather quickly at night, and their primary role is often defensive.)

ghosts at night only do 6-3 ranged against clashers, as much as a human archer without modifications. the retaliation would be better though, (also 6-3). that would only do 36 damage during both night turns with one ghost, and that's not enough to kill a clasher. Besides, this is where the other units in the faction come in.

i find it weird that ulfs aren't counted because of consistency, even though they always use beserk, rather than horsemen and thieves who only get their weapon specials under certain circumstances.

also: an ulf would be 8-4 when led by a dragon, doing a total of 1088 damage (it gets 34 strikes IIRC) if it manages to land all of them. but then, the clasher being attacked by an ulf and led by a dragon would be 2448 damage, so the highest possible damage done by a lvl 1 unit from mainline would be a clasher led by a dragon attacked by an ulf during day.

If that counts, then a strong horseman led by a dragon attacking an ulf should also count. ;)

(Around 3200 damage)

What about the Holy Water item, are ulfs more resistent to pierce or arcane?

why does it get 34 strikes ?

berserk make a unit until the opponent unit or itself dies - with a maximum of 30 ROUNDS

so an ulf gets 30x4 = 120 strikes
The best bet is your own, good Taste.

Berserkers have 20% to pierce but only 10% to arcane!
So, the unit would be:

A strong horseman with the holy water item, attacking a berserker during the day, being given leadership by a Fire Dragon.

Not to be a stinker, but I think the maximum damage a first level unit can deal is bounded by the hit points of the creature it is attacking...

It was only matter of time before someone suggested something like this. :lol2:

Why not this also:

Code: Select all

:lua wesnoth.dofile("lua/helper.lua").modify_unit({ x = 9, y = 7 }, { ["attack.damage"] = 100000 })
That way any lvl1 unit can do as much damage as the engine supports before errors/crashes/etc. :D

Heh, you could even change the unit's level if necessary too. :D

You forgot to modify the Berserker's resistences in an uncompressed save file.
Once coding comes onto the scene it's a sure sign we've run out of ideas.

Again, doesnt have to be a Necrophage, any unit can get infinate health via ALMAs.

It was the maximum damage a level 1 unit could do, Necrophage Vs Berserker doesn't count :P
