Isle of Dread, HttT

Post by Xandria »

It's my first time in this scenario, and I am not certain how to play it - only 100 gp, no access to leveled troops, and two liches to kill seems tough.

Any hints?

If I recall right, you can get some merman. Use some to capture the villages and to delay the one lich on the other island.
Recruit a castle full of troops and rush to the the other castle with everything and your dog.
Gamble with the temples and hope that you get the white mage. (Of course he brings some friends a Draug and some walking corpses or so :annoyed: )
Kill the lich with him and overtake the castle and get some fresh recruits and pray that you can just get in time to the other one.

To be honest interesting scenario but so needless difficult that it almost gets
crackbrained.

imo it's quite important to quickly level up some thugs, as they are essential to killing the liches (still very heavily depending on luck, though). Moremirmu, the White Mage you get, just can't reach both the liches in time. My strategy is to send Konrad with one group to the first lich, and Moremirmu with the other group.
To some extent it's also possible to outrun the green liches' skeletons, if they go to grab the villages near your starting keep. Using footpads to delay them seems to work also.

I didn't recruit any mermen. two is quite enough to grab the few villages and attract ghosts.

I was able to level a mermaid initiate using xp from the previous level and some easy WC's, and the 6-4 arcane really added up v. the liches.

On hard, the only apparent way to do it is to recruit 4 mermaid initiates and an escort for Konrad (thug?), rush Konrad and the outlaw to the temple, find the WM and go for one Lich while the initiates take on the other one.

To be honest, there's no much need in killing both liches. If you kill 'em, Moremirmu comes with you. Alone. If you don't kill 'em, he comes to help you in the VofD as a Mage of Light with 3 other mages. I prefer the second option.

Of course, if you wait till the end, you'll not receive early finish bonus, but you can reserve some outlaws instead. Some of them can be useful later.

i leveled up a merman warrior and then i sent three or so merman to kill the south lich. i spent the rest of my gold on thugs and a footpad or two. the footpads are quite useful to get around behind the lich and kill him. i just used a hammer and anvil tactic on his skeletons. i managed to level up two thugs and then i attacked the lich on his own turf. i was playing on easy though. but if you grab the villages early, then you shouldnt have to worry about gold.

I hope Konrad is already leveled, as this helps a bit.

My white mage dead for exposing himself (or herself) to lightning spells... I managed to escape with only a very few units, including a leveled merman and another buddy (another merman, I think). It's a difficult scenario, but you could go through by keeping your pals into the swamps and into villages in order to gain experience and try to beat them up.
