[My] Custom Units

Post by speedduck »

I did these a while back and thought I'd share them now. I've edited the basic wose to make LOTR-styled units.

In the last couple days I started working on a shadow warrior. Currently I've done the initial shading and outline for all 3 levels.

Shadow Rogue (lvl 1) --> Shadow Spy (lvl 2) --> Shadow Assassin (lvl 3)
Advancement is a bit plain, although I'm still learning.

There are many tutorials on how to make pixel art using Gimp or Photoshop.
you can templates for unit poses and then just select your colours and shadings.

This is an example on wesnoth unit shading.
If you google or youtube pixel art tutorials, you'll find enough of tutorials

Many also start with frankens, basically cutting unit pieces and re-essemble them into new units.
For that you need to learn the basics of gimp.

I recommend to start franken, if you want to make art for wesnoth that way you'll learn about the proportions of the style of wesnoth units.

Here you have an thread with many franken examples. Just read it through or check out the sprites posted there.

I haven't actually tried making franken units yet. I think I'll try it out to learn more. My free-drawn attempts could be better.

your free drawn attempts are not that bad for the first sprites.
I would recommend to find ways to make the lv1 lv2 and lv3 differ a bit more. They look very similar.
