New Merman

What do you think about the name? What is a possible advancement for a hoplite?

Just my opinion (I'm full of opinions and not so full of sprites!)
The shield looks great and the merman looks quite good.
The two don't really work so well together.

My reccomendations for the merman, for what they are worth:
Give him that sort of ancient look by adding a greenish tinge to the armor and possibly making the lines a little less 'clean', seaweed, barnacles?
Rather than having armor on head and torso and a fish tail, give him armor extending onto tail parts, he's not human and there's no reason he should follow human armor traditions. If you want to give him a classical feel, that is something you can do with the helmet and armor style, you don't have to try to dress a merman in hopolite or roman legion armor.

My reccomendations for the shield:
It looks great and everything but perhaps not on that merman, perhaps keep the same basic design but make it thinner so you have a shield of similar shape and same height but kind of oblong or elipse shaped (it might end up looking a little like a surf board )
As with the armor I reccomend that the shield look kind of duller and more tarnished. Perhaps even remove team colour altogether and replace it with a rusted copper colour?

those are just my thoughts on what would turn a not bad sprite into a really good one in my opinion. Of the mermen you've drawn I think the latest one is the best.

This shield doesn't match his armor because of different shading.
