Elephant grass for Wesnoth?
Jungles are form of vegetation that support complex life. Physically jungles also provide an aboreal habitat, treetrunks, branches, thickets, physical obstacles in another words. They also provide visual cover as well as forms of distance. Grassland creates a contrast between this kind of environment, where no visual or physical cover is present. There's no climbing to trees or hiding behind tree trunks, no impassable thickets.
Tall grass, plains, elephant grass would be a mix of the two. Basically they're thickets that form of thin and relatively easier - but still difficult - to pass kind of terrain in comparison to jungles. There's also no climbing to trees. There's plenty of visual cover. Sometimes elephant grass may be tall enough to hide an entire elephant - Or at least I'm guessing that's where the name comes from. Hay or tall grass may also burn very easily and fire may spread quickly.
Would it make sense to graphically creates such hexes? Or perhaps would such hexes diminish forests? This also raises questions regarding hexes' graphics overlapping with hexes above. If tall grass would be drawn as tall, it would make forests that don't particularly overlap the other hexes, seem flat, but increasing the forests height - I think that might be really cool though! - would then raise a question regarding mountains. If forests are tall, them mountains should be taller. And if forests overlap with other hexes, then mountains would have to overlap the hexes above too much. In the meantime..
Can we have elephant grass?
Can we have forests that look like they consist of "great trees"?
Thoughts?
How about tundra, or barren wintry landscapes ?
