Some more trubbol sprites

Post by Trubbol »

The smallest unit I could find in this game looks like it could snatch these up and eat them for breakfast....
But there are small units in wesnoth, right?
Right?
Well, these sprites are puny, these ones I am posting here. They are small, I am aware of this fact. They look pretty good when animated though.

Alright, animation IS cool, and smooth.
Small thing: In Wesnoth units should face SouthEast by default, like these:
http://units.wesnoth.org/trunk/C/Dwarvi ... ghter.html
http://units.wesnoth.org/trunk/C/Elvish%20Captain.html
http://units.wesnoth.org/trunk/C/Horseman.html
Also Wesnoth sprites should have visible outlines in some dark color.

As for size: If you mean Trubbol Redcap to be smaller than human, but bigger than dwarf, you've hit perfectly. :D

I'm not sure, but I feel like he's missing an arm? Also, the animation is cool, you avoided the classic "move only the active elements", but it could be a bit more cartoony and exagerated, it would look more powerful (atm it looks a bit weak). His head could also turn a bit towards us near the end of the animation. And what Shinobody said about the facing.

Then sizewise he is good! Glad he is not as round as dwarves! :lol2:
I'll get right to work on making him look the right direction, and having him grow another arm.

Stupid question, but if he is attacking, why would he be taking a step back and then lunging? This isn't really typical of most Wesnoth characters that use motions similar to yours. Unless this is how he returns to the middle of his hex after an attack, which is fine. But it does look like he has no left arm.

I don't know if the shadowing is done yet or not, but it looks like some shadowing is in order, especially on the clothing.

Also, if he is slicing with his sword, then (in this sprites case) would be hitting the enemy with a blunt edge, dealing around 3 damage, given that it even hurts the opponent. The sword should be on its side, typical of a slicing motion.

His face is pointing right. Actually, his whole body is to the right, as both Shinobody implied. Not that this is ABSOLUTELY necessary, as it is your faction and your artwork. But having the character facing the viewer more gives it a better look and feel, and also helps with the shadowing and texture.

That's all I gotta say for now. As for the characters in general, nice job! :D

He is taking a step back before lunging for the point of returning to his hex as mentioned, and because I think it looks cool. 8)
I am not quite sure how the sword should look on it's side.

Make it thinner, or put it on an angle to make it seem like the arc is wider.

The attack is all about the arc. If you plan to make it a jab, then your basic idea is ok. But if you plan on making the sprite swing the sword at enemies, try to make it go in an arc.

Jab of course.

And here is a cool walk animation. I know, sideways, and it looks like he has a limp.

I like this manga style and as an era has some great potencial! :D
or maybe can be an hero on an RPG campaign  with his cat as companion!
for the walking animation I can help you by posting this link http://www.manningkrull.com/pixel_art/t ... alking.asp naturally is only to see the pose of the feet, but you will need to face the animation on sud-est direction as they said the others members for the others animations :)

sorry for the bad english

Your speech is wonderful!
The blue thing is meant to be a dragon though... need to add thing wings now don't I? I like the walk here, think I'll just edit the head to face the right way.
I'd really like that, and I will be trying to make leveled up versions of this character, cooler outfits, stuff like that... yeah... guy can dream right?
Image
I added quite a bit to this sprite sheet... Gonna animate some more stuff while I can.

I edited this walking GIF to look a bit more southeast and all, cause it just ain't right otherwise...
Actually the only new edit here is I added the other eye now.

About the attack animation: The head looks quite static. Perhaps you could make the hair to move a bit. I think the outlines are OK, but the pants look somewhat pillow shaded.

I am not gonna put a lot of effort into changing the pants at this point, I do not think it is worth the effort at this point. Besides, I like the way it looks now.
As for the head on the attack, now that you have pointed it out it starts to bug me, like the whole thing with his other arm being absent. I'll make the ear move.
Now here is a pretty dragon.

As for the only difference being head: Apparently lot of mainline sprites use that technique. (most just head south and have SE head...) Looks not bad, I'd say you now grow him another arm, like promised. (And you have single white junk pixel in bottom-right corner in 3 frame).
I won't comment on the dragon. I won't...
So cute... o_O
This is defense anim, if I'm right?
Also, I noticed something. I'm not sure, but it seems you are pillow-shading to differentiate between parts of sprites. This is unneeded, since sprites in Wesnoth use dark outlines.
Attachment about pillowshading (actually, it's tutorial Zero posted in Artisticdude's thread, one of few he posted there - and they are very useful.)
Image
Stage 1: Pillowing
Stage 2: Still Pillowing (just directional)
Stage 3: Simple shading
Stage 4: Proper shading. (how it should be)
Dragon's head seems to be shaded good, but legs seem to be pillowed, for no other reason than to show that they are separate from torso: Outline would show it as good.
