I think the shirt or jacket isn't shadowed (it's plain colour). And I'm not sure about the shadows in the left arm. But Otherwise he looks good.

Re-edited the bowman, with a new neckline, modified belt and boot tops, re-shaded hands and quiver.
I've tried to avoid black (I think the darkest colour I used is 030303)
@shiremct, thanks very much for the critique and tips.

First 5 frames of an attack animation (bow coming into position and free hand reaching the string.) I am aware further frames are required for the drawing of the string and firing of the arrow.

Re: North Facing Loyalist bowman base frame
Just keep to the original se sprites color scheme, if you aren't. Changing the color range is a bad idea if you want to keep unit consistency with the SE frames. there actually is some pure black colors on them. (The current SE is the final version right?) To keep a copy of the base SE sprite right next to yours in your work document which you can closely compare with is a good idea.I've tried to avoid black (I think the darkest colour I used is 030303)
I could try explaining what to do, but showing is better than telling I suppose. Hope you don't mind me doing some edits.
He seemed to have his head turned north so I tried turning it. It was a bit of a headscratcher... Besides turning the plume/quill I think showing his ear might help.
Added his gloves.
Added tassels.
Slimmed waist.
Did some reshading, mainly brightening his back, shoulders, quiver and bow. Though his boots were brighter than the SE frames so I darkened them. Also defined the legs more.
Some select+nudge tweaks.

Sometimes we must be hurt in order to grow, fail in order to know, lose in order to gain, and sometimes we must have to be broken so we can be whole again...

Nice edit. I had already thought of brightening the quiver, but you did a better job.
I retouched your edit, defined some of the edges a little more clearly and redid some of the shading, especially to give the boots a little more shape. The head and body shape is a great improvement.
