I used a bunch of different shades here and there, should I reduce the number of shades of colors in the sprite? I am also somewhat colorblind so just let me know when color issues happen :). Do you think I should darken the borders more as well?

you could do that, but you should first pick a few shades and clean up those many shades, then we´ll see what else needs fixing.

Heres my progress so far, I worked more on getting him looking in the right direction than I did reducing the number of shades used.. but still cleaned up a few of them on his yellow tunic. Now that I look at it again it looks like his shield and arm need to come back up a pixel, was an attempt at making his shield arm look more relaxed.

He's very flat; use more contrast. Also, his legs should be spread out a bit more, so he doesn't fall over. After all, he's leaning over to hold that spear..

make the spear a lot shorter,he´s lv1. and try to swing the arm down like hes relaxed. Also you should make hes sleeves longer and he should be wearing something like a long tunic. Lose that belt over his chest he will have only a spear attack.

that's even more limited to greece (Hellas=Greece)

actually the spear lenght is fine..though maybe not necessarily for a persian - those greek sprits could use that lenght in their spears instead, plus it seems that the pose won't change much so a shadow would be appropriate - dont forget about one :)

If I may put a comment of my own about your persian unit: it's like he's paper thin, with his feet and spear all aligned on the same line. At best, he looks like his feet are facing us or something, while his body is facing s-e. And even then, they'd be cut a bit square. The left leg should be lowered by 2-4 pixels, and you could make the bottom of both boots a bit more round. It would greatly help giving the feeling the sprite is facing s-e, and has a more solid/balanced stance.

How about Historical Era? :eng: Then you can have Persians, Peloponnesians [sic], Romans, the whole caboodle. I recall there was someone named NurlorVoronwe or something like that. He made a slew of images for Carthaginians, and was working on a campaign about the 2nd Punic war. I myself know that if you finish this era, I would make at least one campaign that used it. :D

Historical era is a bit vague, don't you think? Punic Era would work, I think. Anybody got some elephant sprites lying around?
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

It's meant to be vague; then you aren't tied down to any specific time period.
Elephants? Check this thread.

There will be no carthaginians or romans,or any other additions, except maybe Atlantis when art is done for all 4 original factions.
that's even more limited to greece (Hellas=Greece)
I know but i thought more about a period of time(but that period is later in history so probably i wont use it).How about Mythical era or Heroic Era?
actually the spear lenght is fine..though maybe not necessarily for a persian
The spear needs to be a lot shorter(something like the one the default spearman has),the persians had shorter spears then greeks so they cant have those long spears.

I totally agree with this. the feet look like they are leveled with the viewer, you should make them a bit longer.
Keep up the good work.
P.S. Is the spartan good to go or should i fix something?

EDIT:
you should make them a bit longer
I meant rounder at their end so its not a straight line :P

Thanks for the feedback everyone. I will have some free time to work on it tonight or tomorrow sometime, hopefully I can get it looking a lot better this time.
