Majors Art
I've tried to contribute to some Eras int the Factions and Eras forum, but all the eras died in their sleep so I thought I might as well post some of my sprites in an art thread.
And if you have a faction or era that is NOT goind to collapse and die I can contribute some work.

Re: Majors Art
Going to state this now, I've always felt that your Space Marine's a bit too pillowed. Besides, you really don't need all those shades. Maybe 1 or 2 less will work just as well. Could also look into shifting contrast up and saturation down, though I am given to understand that that's generally how Games Workshop portrays them- supersaturated.
Also, I'd be interested in seeing how you turn that seeming level 0 Scuttler into a level 3 or 4 Behemoth.

Re: Majors Art
I'm working on it.
Yeah he does seem a little pillowed but I like him so I'll keep him and his flaws

Re: Majors Art
The scuttler looks awesome.
The behemoth's back legs look to small though, i would suggest making them larger.

Re: Majors Art
I could do that or add a sixth pair.
I think Ill try both.

Re: Majors Art
Oh, whoops yeah a third pair.
Anyway here is a L1 fighter upgrade to the Scuttler.

Re: Majors Art
The scythe arms sticking out of the sides really detracts from the composition of the unit. Consider putting them in front and having them point like a scorpion. I would make a mockup but I'm not in a position to do art right now.
Re: Majors Art
I would suggest making the weapon arms more scythe-like rather than sword-like, i.e. get rid of the fuller in the middle of the talon and make it more scythe-like. Just an idea I think would look better.
I would also suggest shrinking or doing something else with the outer mandibles.

Re: Majors Art
I'll move the arms and make them point forwards.
I've also mad a quick tree for the Scuttler.

Re: Majors Art
Wait this is a separate lineage?
..Oh. That's why the shell isn't serrated I guess. Nice work. Just... Remove those arms and put them somewhere else in the composition. They make me irritated XD Then it'll be more awesome.

Re: Majors Art
I've put the scythe arms above and in front of the other limbs and made the feet different.
The scythes also fold back along his abdomen.

Re: Majors Art
It looks great! Exactly where you would expect them to be while he's moving.
The scarab looks great, but the stalking eviscerator is rather strange. I would suggest making him face more of a 45 degree angle downwards, like the standard for Wesnoth units, and making his talons straighter (though with a curve, for sure), and closer to his body.

Re: Majors Art
Ok. I shall fix him.
He really didn't turn out the way I wanted him to.

Re: Majors Art
Stalking Eviscerator just seems wayyyy too sideview to me. I'd suggest that you try again; I'm not sure this baseframe is really salvageable. The side-arm thing is also like "wth" to me. Straighter talons, of course.
The differences in style between Scarab and Behemoth are very noticeable. Scarab has huge highlights which make it look bony while the Behemoth's dim highlights make it look fleshy. It's really a common problem- you make a unit that you like, so you decide to do a whole line for it. Then the rest of the line is in an obviously different style as you do things differently. Happened to me with Steelhive, especially with the Slashers.
I suggest you either tone down the highlights of the Scarab a bit or hope that whatever lv3 you're providing works well as an intermediary.
