here's a guide to shading that will help you a lot. The leather parts of your skeleton are pillow shaded, and as Zerovirus said, need more contrast.
A few more things:
- The skeleton's sword arm is bent in a rather strange way.
- I feel that the skeleton is holding the buckler too close to its body.
- I would suggest making the leather look more worn or frayed to suit a skeleton unit.
Keep at it, you're doing great!

Re: Fog's spriting
O.K., I tried to add more contrast to the leather. Obviously, I need to find a different color for the sword, I snatched that pallete from the skeleton's axe. I didn't edit the shield, I will be moving it. Any advice on worn leather colors or old sword colors? TIA!
Edit: Seeing it now makes me think that I shaded semi-randomly...

Re: Fog's spriting
I'd suggest dithering, but I'm not sure if you're able to dither without screwing over the shading yet. Look into that.
Make sure the sword has more of a outline. It's metal, so it should also have something of a sharper highlight. Consider using rust too.

Dithering? Going to Google...

Re: Fog's spriting
Whoops, you don't know that term? Basically crosshatching for pixelart. The term applies to stuff outside of pushing pixels too, so google might not be the best source.
Re: Fog's spriting
Alright, I know what cross-hatching is. I'll keep dithering in mind in my next edit!
I moved the shield a pixel over. I re-did the shading on the skull cap. Going to work on the sword...

Re: Fog's spriting
It's getting there.
But to me the strap that goes across his ribcage diagonally stocks out too much. It could use a black outline cus now it's more visible than the arms.

Re: Fog's spriting
Third edit:
Here is a skeletal adept that I doubt is really worth posting, considering the minimal changes. Well whatever.
BTW, That "leather strap" is a sword. Pitiful, right?

Re: Fog's spriting
Your adept's hands have the correct color, but still look fleshy rather than skeleton-like. I would suggest looking at your other skeleton's hands for how to make them more "bare."
I identified the "leather strap" as a sword, by the way. It looks fine to me, because the hilt in his hand clearly makes it look like a sword. Maybe that's just me, though.

Re: Fog's spriting
I only id'd it as a sword because you told us in your first post.
The adept does not look skeletal much. I mean, it still has breasts. Make sure you're envisioning the robes draped over the skeletal frame, not fleshy bodies. As a Frankie though it works well enough.

Re: Fog's spriting
Breasts? Really? Doesn't seem that way to me.
Re: Fog's spriting
Maybe not. I haven't looked at dark adepts in a while. Still, I'm pretty sure my other points still hold true.
Re: Fog's spriting
Breasts?... That body part doesn't usually cross my mind whilst on the Wesnoth forums. Were you looking at Bad Moon Rising prior to my topic? Sadly, I see where you came to that conclusion. I based my remake off the male adept though...
My pitiful sword was mistaken for a supersaturated leather strap by Frogger5.
Alright, Edit Four. Redid shading on boots, some on his breastplate, and on our left shoulder pad. I am almost content with him; the sword bothers me very much. Any advice on a pallete?
Tried to make this skeletal adept male this time... I also tried to de-flesh his hands. And failed.
