Help me get better at sprite art!

Post by tuahaa »

Well, I need to improve my sprite art (as a hobby). I will start off with recoloring and 100% Frankensteins (and a bit of hand drawn fixes) and move on to partial Frankensteins.

I've started and I made some sort of snow/front/ice crawler. Next week, I'll try make a frankie... any critique (even mean ones) welcome!

Well, we can get critique your work, but really the only thing that's gonna make you better is practice, practice, practice.

The frost blob looks solid for a frankenstein, but it could use some detail.

I would start by improving the eyes - a straight up blotch of purple does not make good eyes. Try more shading.

I wouldn't say the eyes should be purple, myself though. It looks rather strange in contrast to the blue.

It's more of a recolor than a Frankie, and it's really hard to crit a simple recolor because all you really changed was the pallete. Maybe a bit oversaturatwd without enough contrast.

Edit: also, have you never heard of teamcolor before?

Monsters generally don't need teamcolor...

IMHO it could look nice, if the eyes had this cyan-like glow in them (like steam or something). Their internal frost emanating from the eyes, almost as if they were colder, than the rest of them.

As for the rest, I'd suggest, that you made the character a bit "bulkier" or give it a bit sharper, more pointy edges, as if it was just a big, animated lump torn out from a big bulk of ice.
