Magic missle attack icon. Please give me all the criticism I deserve... and need!

Please don't create multiple threads, one is good enough and doesn't spam up the forum.

On your work - it's a nice simple start, but you need more constrast in it, especially brights.

Too dark if its energy at least the inner part should be brighter. I also lacks 3d feel.
Keep working, but it's easier if you try something solid+real and use references to understant the shape of the item.

Okay, brightened it up a bit, added a bit more transparency around the edges. Thanks everyone for your advice and criticism!

You need to brighten it up a lot more. Look at similar attack icons or pictures of lightning, welding torches, etc.

Alright, I just went hog-wild and did a lot of photoshopping on my original image. Which one is the best?

Of those, option 6 reminds me most of a missile. Option 5 is also a decent brightness. 2 and 4 look muddy. 3 is lacking the white center.

Now that they're brighter, I'd suggest maybe a little less saturation.

Here I lowered the saturation. Any comments? Is it still too much, or did I go too far?
