NRIW is relaxed somewhat recently, but the cross is still not really appropriate - even if there is religion in wesnoth, it's not christian.

A simple rectangular or round-topped headstone would be more appropriate.

When? Where?

I remember there've been Mermaid Priestesses for a while (although it's always been vague what they're priestesses of), and Kaleh always rambles about Eloh (a bit too much for my tastes) - were those what you were referring to?

As I understand, it's been toned down to a 'no official opinion, do what you want in UMC, but mainline's not going to actively change anything'.

But I could be wrong, don't whatever you do take this as an administrative opinion.

Well, for the cross thing.
The cross isn't a religious gravestone exactly it was a way for roman (i think) soldiers to torture victims as they died, they hung them up and left them to die going on their way.

As for the whole "Wesnoth is set in medieval times" thing.
From what I understand Wesnoth is set in it's own time-line, is it not?

For the NRIW thing.
There IS religion in wesnoth just not "real world" religions, each of the races I'm pretty sure have their own religions.
White Mages, and Paladins are probably religious to a god of light or something.
Necromancers, and Undead are probably worshipping some god of death or something to be granted the powers to bring back the living.
While some Units/Races probably think themselves as gods.

To escape another religion debate I created a 'regular' gravestone.

EDIT: and a stone arch/magic portal

That portal thing is awesome. Maybe it's not really as hard to make as it looks, but regardless of how much effort it took, that is really cool. :D

Have you considered doing anything for mainline? Or are you already and I'm missing it?

Contrast, my good friend. More contrast on the portal.

Often. Unfortunately, my work is... less than mainline-quality. At least for right now. Thanks for the compliment though. :)

I'm improving the portal. More contrast and a few stray pixels eliminated:

Still could use some contrast IMO. Especially the back parts of the gate... Also, I really want purple shadows for some reason. Dunno why.

I'm gonna see if I can find a reference. Wasn't there something like this in Avernum? Anyhoo, here's a new sprite while I work on this portal.

____________
If I don't post a new version tomorrow, assume I've gone through the portal to whatever lands lie beyond. Lands where there are white bunny rabbits floating around, flowers bloom in the sky, the rivers run with coke, money grows on trees, and the sun is blue and green at the same time.

The gate probably needs more shading on the left of the side closest to the viewer.

The triceratops is very dark.

I'm going to tell you that in Mainline, as according to all of Those Who Hath Coloured Naymes, there are no religions, period. Each of the races do not have their own religions. There is no religion in wesnoth, real world or otherwise.

Wesnoth magic hasn't really been adequately explained using any form of logic or faith; instead of calling the attacks holy (though they were called that in a previous version of Wesnoth), they are Arcane and/or Magical. The undead do manipulate death, but there is no evidence towards a God of the Undead or a God of Death.

Any of the people who regularily make such statements are usually more brutal in their fashion than me, this time, I do believe.

The triceratops looks wayyy too blended. While learning the ways of painting are fun, for units you should probably stick to pure pixels. In fact, it reminds me more of the graphic type seen in Starcraft or other similar RTS games rather than any unit style I've seen for Wesnoth yet. Of course, more contrast- right now it looks like a brown dino-blob rather than a 3d-figure.

EDIT: I highly doubt there's really a place for your huge portal in Wesnoth. It's incredibly huge, bigger than any unit we've seen so far, and as scenery it should be in the same scale as scenery. If put at scenery scale, or even village scale, it's almost the size of a mountain or something. Besides, something that huge really draws attention to itself, which may not be the best idea for scenery.

Hate to sound like a bit of a [censored], but the dino-soar.png looks like you've simply reduced a picture in size. And on further inspection so does the portal :?

ah what [censoring doesnt seem to work on edits] is hardly profanity lol
