Re: Anyone want to give me a try?

Post by artisticdude »

Yay, just got photoshop 8! No more random crashes, but the darn GIF maker still has the same problem. :x I'm downloading GIMP as I'm posting this though, so we'll see what I can do with that. :)

@melinath: I think you said you could use a shield bash as well somewhere in this thread, but I can't remember and can't find it in the thread. Did you request the animation or am I thinking of something else?

The swordmaster can have 4 attacks, currently:
  • Bow
  • Sword
  • Reckless Attack (sword+charge)
  • Shield Bash
The sword and Reckless Attack can use the same animation, but it'd be great to have a separate animation for the shield bash, yeah.

EDIT:: Of course you are also welcome to make separate sword attacks and a bow attack, but that'd be way above and beyond.

But I've got to warn you that I'm no great shakes as an animator (look how many pages of this thread have been devoted to the animation of this guy).
Just as well that you'll have time to improve while I fix them up :D.

The shield is still a little small.

"still"? When was it too small? It seems fine to me and pretty much everyone else. If it was a problem it would have been brought up sooner.

Nu uh, :P I don't think so, any bigger and it would just plain get in the way.

The shield currently in use is the largest shield in the game after the shocktrooper's. And the shocktrooper is much larger than my sprite, and is supposed to be wearing/using heavy, bulky armor/weapons. Plus, this shield connects this unit to the next level, royal guard. If you want to change the shield for your own use, go ahead, but I'll keep the current one.

Working on the motion blur and shadows... also shield bash animation.

Would it be okay if I tried to give him an animation where he reaches behind himself and gets a crossbow? Or would you need an actual bow?

I have no problem with a crossbow. It would fit with the character. EDIT:: By which I mean: go for it!

It's gonna be extremely hard to make him drop his shield and sword to use his crossbow, 'cause there's nowhere for him to put them. Any suggestions?

Hammerspace. That's what we use for mainline. You don't need to worry about it, in other words - equipment that is unused can be magically vanished until needed again.

Back to work. Current projects: Catching up on commits. Picking Meridia back up. Sprite animations, many and varied.

Makes my life a whole lot easier. Should he suddenly have the crossbow in his hands like the mainline units, or do you think I should try having him reach around to get a crossbow hanging by the back of his belt?

You could do that, but it would be unnecessary extra time and effort.

If you did, you could have a draw/put away animation that would show at the beginning and end of the entire attack sequence.
