Wesnoth Wallpaper

Post by Cyber117XC »

Hey everyone!

For first - just to introduce myself:
My name is Cyber117XC and I'm an Italian, born (1990) and living in Germany!

A few days ago I was searching the web for a good Wesnoth Wallpaper but
after hours I had just one result. So I decided to make one by myself.
So, here are the results including the wallpaper I found!

---

Thanks to "thespaceinvader" for the perfect portraits I used!
I don't know you, but I really love your works and hope that
you're not angry on me for using them in my own project.
I thought it was okay cause we aim at the same direction: supporting Wesnoth!

Great idea! What about some other combination of portraits as well? Perhaps a forum thread asking for ideas as to which ones look the coolest?

Thank you very much =D
I really was anything else than sure if you would like them!

I also thought about using portraits of other units and heroes like Haldric,
but the best and most useful portraits I found were provided by thespaceinvader
and the clue was that most of them were about dwarfes and the ones I used.

---

EDIT: I used the portraits I found using Google, so I missed all the possibilities
of the here provided portraits! If you want me to, I certainly could continue creating
wallpapers with other portraits or also motives!

As a small note, presently I prefer the bottom wallpaper because the other two (esp. the colored one) are really cluttered...

i really like this idea. the easiest way to get all portraits would be to download the latest dev version (1.7.5). it's just two weeks old so you won't miss many of the new ones.

would be awesome if you could create different sets (for e.g. dwarfs, loyalists, undead...).

and i'm sure someone could show you a way to get rid of the units hard borders.

I like #1 and #3.

But yeah, we should totally have a link on the web site for desktop wallpaper downloads.

Whilst this is a good idea, it's not for the mainline game, so it's in the wrong place.

Or it was ;)

Thanks to all!

Your critics really inspire me to make new ones :)

@melinath: Allright I'll try to make a more decent one!

@Max2008: Thank you very much for that great tip! I'll keep going on this!
I already thought about and tried out to de-sharp the contures of the portraits
but it disliked me!

@ancestral: Thanks a lot =) It feels good to see that I had a usable idea!
Maybe we could do more for our famousity - just like providing more wallpapers,
signature advertisement and contacting some game magazines!
Do you have some "marketing-man" or somewhat else, yet?
What do you think about that? (question goes to anyone)
By the way: I'd love to support the BFW-project on that way!

@thespaceinvader: Thanks a lot for saying my idea was good! I'm sorry about
missing the right corner for this, but I didn't know where to post it!
What would be the right topic for this thread?

It would be awesome if you could do that stuff.

In the rings of open source we're considered to be the second best (I still don't know what the majority sees in Open Arena. A smexy (or at least it tries to be  ) fps? Like we haven't seen that before).

But outside that ring we are rather hard for absolute newbies to find though.

This is as deep as most would go.

As far as a marketing man you'd have to be very careful while representing us. Make sure our license is well known.

@Gambit: Your right at any point!
Our status quo in famousity isn't acceptable in my opinion!
BFW is such a great, fun bringing game - made with so much love!

I would be honored if I could support you on that way to make
BFW become the #1 in OS games and better known by the mainstream!

Certainly I would prepare any projects in consultation with you
before releasing the results! I know the GNU GPL very well because
I studied Applied Informatics for 1 year (including business studies)
and I work with Linux since 2007!

Shall I open another thread about this topic to discuss
and consult the projects? I already have some ideas!

Don't worry, I moved it already. That's what the green text meant.

I got bored and made one myself, more to see how it would turn out. I probably should have spent the time packing instead, but hey, life is more fun when you leave everything to the last minute ;)

I could send a zip file of the GIMP file if they're intrested.

Maybe make wallpaper out of the loading screen mockups for the iPhone port.

It's hard to actually rank Wesnoth. As far as I know, Open Arena isn't anywhere near the top, though. As far as I can tell, Nexuiz and Wesnoth are the most popular, but it's not something you can measure easily.

The problem is that a lot of good projects are rather stagnant in development. I could take a three year break from Freeciv or SuperTux and not really see that much of an improvement. When a project is active, like Wesnoth, it encourages people to stay longer.
