I'm thinking of making a faction out of these. Haven't done an entire faction in a while.

Jade people? Sounds good. :)
I think that (her) left leg of the highest level looks more like a straight pipe than a leg. Plus it looks as if it started at the crotch, not the hip (just extrapolate the shape upwards and you will see). :geek:

Melee-oriented line. Next up, maybe golems?

Very awesome. I know you probably don't like nitpicks, but I have one anyway: the lines on the staffs and swords are kind of jaggy... ...but... GOLEMS!? Can't wait for those.

Did you do something naaaaaughty, Woodmouse~

I'd actually like more criticism and nitpicks. It seems that everyone has considered me beyond criticism somehow, which kinda makes me stagnate. Though I'm not sure what I can do about the jaggies on the staves...

Did some color distortion tests on the golems (recoloring good sprites tends to be more educative than recoloring bad sprites).
I wanted to:
1) Reduce the foggy shadows effect that has been bothering me for quite some time, like early versions of the new old decayed Malin portrait, etc.
2) Reduce the saturation of specular highlights.
Both of these are my personal preferences.
It looks like the foggy shadows effect was reduced, but at the cost of pitch black contrast, I am still trying to get the point of it :hmm: .
If you are bored with low forum activity, maybe I should post it:

FWIW, I think the extra contrast there is an improvement, it really makes them pop. It's nice to have someone else figure out for me what it is that's been subtly bothering me about them.

Yup, those darker shadows make the sprites a lot better! I'll have to tinker with the pallete used (which I actually got off some of Neorice's sprites).

I think the lvl 3 melee unit might need a bit more colour variation: all the other units in the line have both green and blue, but this one has mostly green.

Derp.

A lot wrong with it but it's free and quick. No complaining.

Lol, and I was secretly hoping that someone might leak out the secret of foggy shadows.

It might be about something else than increasing contrast or adjusting saturation of some shades (which I failed to remove the foggy shadows with, but that doesn't prove anything).

Or, it might be the area that is taken up by some color.
I can see the golems have the darker shades almost exclusively for outlines only, unlike, say, the saurian sprites.
Tried recoloring a saurian to the original palette of greens that was used for the golem.

Well actually the original pallete wasn't mine- I ripped it off one of Neorice's ricemon spritesheets. I suppose pokemon-style palletes don't work as well in wesnoth.

random tiles- might make a mockup out of them someday.

Also, there is a PIXELART TOURNAMENT coming up- details in the below link to Off-Topic. You should think about joining! Half the heavy-hitters in the world of pixelart are joining, it'll be great.
