Post by Unnheulu »

Ok, I'm doing this purely for practise no intention of going mainline ;)

Looks reasonable, though as you say, the lines need to be properly aliased.

This is one of those portraits that will rely heavily on shading quality though, since there's no real anatomical crit which can be applied :P

Have you tried vectorizing it with a program like Inkscape? Sometimes it softens my lines in a very cool way.
It is ok to correct me if my English is too bad.

Pretty good! Though, you might want to take a closer look at a few of the vectors--There are some "holes" in the lineart, and places where it doesn't connect.
Anyway, looking forward to seeing this shaded!

If noone has any major quibbles, then I've gone ahead and done the flats (Plus filled in the holes^^)

Critism please.

EDIT: This is the 500x500 version, but I'll scale it down to 400x400 when I'm done...

Working at at least double the final size is usually better than just a little larger.

And you will definitely need to vary your line weighting. The brighter the light hitting the area, the thinner the line, generally.

Updated, tried thinning down the lines, taking into consideration that there would likely be multiple lightsources.

Thanks TSI for giving me advice on howto thin down the lines!

I'm not sure I see it... Remember that it's not just a matter of randomly thinning some parts here and some parts there, but that the variation needs to follow rules--First of all, work out your lightsource(s). Once you've done that, go through and thin lines that are in direct light and thicken those that aren't. It should start to look 3D already once you're done :)

I imagine mudcrawlers to be slightly wider, but that aside it looks promising :)

I'm still having some trouble reading where the lightsources are... Could you include your markers showing them?

? Is there even any/enough shading for this to be accurately determined even after he pointed them out? It all just looks like paint can filled spots to me so far.
