it's a puppy :P

more seriously, the paws are very "massive" compared to the body size, which is a characteristic of young dogs...

not sure if that makes sense to you, but to me I instantly saw it as a young dog

I was basing it off an Akita, but I clearly didn't stick to that too much. I was also trying to get a more interesting stance than the standard straight-legged pose, but to heck with that as well. I wasn't trying to make a puppy, I guess the feet can be smaller.

You should be using a proper reference image for that, currently a lot of proportions are quite off. I won't start listing them since this was just a very quick edit I did for fun, I'm sure you can pick out the differences by overlaying the images.

Thanks. I'll keep working on that.

This is for campaign Trinity, it's the elf marshal that Echidna "recruits" in her second scenario. It goes along with this other portrait. He's mostly a throw-away character right now, but I'll change that once he has art.

facial features all very wide for an elf, makes him look more like a very hurt, old primitive man with elf ears
of course you might want to keep the hurt look, but then i'd recommend adding bits of purple for better effect :)

Maybe this looks less like a caveman?

(Yes, those of us with our minds in the gutter will notice an unfortunate placement, but I don't care enough to change it. I think it will be less of a problem when shaded.)

yeah now he looks more like a german war hero
maybe it would do the trick to just narrow down the ..chin? cheek? darn my english i can never tell those words apart - the thing on your face under your lips, where the beard should be attached. Try to make it a wee bit sharper/slender something like that, look at mainline elf archer portraits for reference perhaps.

Agreed, and possibly give it slightly more length as well. It might just be me, but the head as a whole looks slightly small.

One significant issue is that the angles of the face and the rest of the head don't match - the face is almost straight on to cam, whilst the head is facing more like 45 degrees away. You need to make sure you're applying perspective to the face itself - we should see significantly less of the far eye and cheek.

Maybe I can fix that by redrawing the jawline. Or maybe that would be too easy. We'll see, thanks.

In the meantime, I've had an idea. Currently, Echidna flies by turning into a glowing ball. That is easy to animate, but is a bit... silly. So, I think I'm going to give her wings instead, and this is the start of that. They don't have feathers, so it shouldn't be too difficult to shade.

Cool. I *really* like the transition from flesh to wings.

Is her an upgrade of http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/download/file.php?id=34832 , or a substitution?

It's a substitution of that one. I may try to do some sort of upgrade scheme for this one, if I have time & energy. But I'm not sure two winged versions are really necessary.

I'll post some sprites.

The top three are the upgrade scheme. Only the winged one shows up in Bad Moon Rising, and that is the one the portrait is for. All three are in Trinity, and a different winged portrait might be nice, or it might be a wasted effort. I'll edit the thing I linked to add dirty & tattered clothes. That'll make a better progression. Done.

Cool. Very cool.

Although maybe without nothing holding the shirt on her left shoulder it's difficult that it will stand much longer.

The horses seem small to me, at least compared with the blondie.

Blondie is a boss and the horses are a wimpy scout unit, but I guess the level 2 & 3 should be bigger.

Back to the elf. I think this guy is just about done.
