Re: Artwork for Children of Dragons

Post by BLM »

I'm back (after finishing calculus and a long vacation through Colorado and Yellowstone)with a new portrait to show. For shadowing over the entire skin I used a dark cyan, for the scales I used a dark red and lighting is bright orange to normal orange. I know that it is a bit sloppy and I'm not to sure about some of the colors used, so advice is welcome. :)

Really nice portraits you got there! :) I especially like the halberd/axe one in yellow armor. They don't really match wesnoth style (though admittedly that is hard for fictional dragon-like beings) but for the campaign I'm sure they will be great,

First time trying to sprite, and I think that it will probably be useless yet worth showing anyways. Yeah, it's pretty bad.

No it isn't, thats really good, especially for a first attempt, and more in line with the current shiny sprites than some of the older drake stuff :D

Ok, I'm planning on making animations for this one. Any suggestion before I begin (I would have tested it in game, but I don't have BFW on my computer atm). I'm trying to keep the style similar to the new style as longbow noticed.

Hmm... That sprite's head is too big, I think. And wings are a bit weird, and so are arms's position and they seem too long. But the armor is cool.

Sprite editing really feels like pushing around bytes. Anyways, I shortened the snout, gave it an outline to get more definition, shaded the wing, and moved it about a pixle to the right.

Time for a defencive animation. Ok I know that his left wing is looking strange, I will fix it in the final version.

Nice job. Maybe you could move its right foot back, possibly flip it, so that the drake looks like its bracing itself for a hit?

Sorry about going back through time but I didn't see this thread and wish to comment on Girgistian's portrait; I think that it can be used without changing anything if it is assumed that he is either taking out his(or her) sword or putting it back into it's sheath. Thats just my thoughts though.

Made an animation to show the ranged and close attacks. With gif there is not much I can do about the motion blur, so please don't point that out. Thanks for pointing that out doofus, I'll remember to fix it for the final version.

Edit: As normal I forgot something...the attack icon.

This part of the animations is the most dreaded for me. It is strange to make the drakes look like they are flying in the pose that they are in. May be drawing them in a different possition while they are flying would solve the problem.

His armor is going up and down at a different rate then his body, but other then that it looks good.

Thought I'd try something different by makeing a standing animation for the drake. Maybe it looks too exhausted.
