Fantastic :D Thanks for all the help with that.

I've tried editing him to have a different coloured cloak/shirt, but it always looks appalling. Can anyone suggest a better way of making him stand out from red mages?

No worries =)

I'd say the best way to make him stand out would be a recolour, but you have to be careful to get those right - it's a lot easier to do it pixel-by-pixel from an already-existing palette than it is to just do it with a filter or from scratch. I'd suggest you find a unit with an appropriate palette (probably something in a dark blue) and copy the colours into the shading already in existence (difficult to explain, so i hope you get what mean).

Not bad, it looks good on the forum page but when viewed against a darker background, there's white pixel above the figure that shows up, and white pixels around the shadow that look a bit out of place.

Overall though, great job. :)

That's a fault of the software I'm using, easy to sort out. I'll probably try to get Gimp, because Graphics Gale has a few annoying flaws like that.

Edit: Here are two attempts at giving him a blue shirt.

That looks good. The latter is better than the former - lower saturation usually looks better in unit design IMHO. And yeah, i'd definitely advise getting GIMP.

I agree as well, the second one looks much better and the dark blue makes him stand out and look less like the fire mage.

Get rid of the bright spots on the beard (make them a bit darker, too much contrast,) and make the telescope darker and you've got a great Frankenstein.
