Hide village owner flags?

Hide village owner flags?
I'm hiding villages (using the overlay) but that leaves a silly flagpole with the flag. Is there a way to tell the game to not display village flags for a given side? I've found explanations on how to change and customize flags, but none on removing them altogether.

Why not just change the flag to something invisible then.

Can I do that, just use a totally-transparent image?
Won't the team-coloring engine complain the flag picture doesn't fit the specifications?

There's nothing for it to complain about. There's no reason to put in an arbitrary limitation where the image must have at least one pixel with TC color, so there isn't one.
