Shock Troopers

Post by DragonLord »

Umm... is there some sort of bug in the game that lists the Shock Trooper's attack as 21-2? That's huge damage... also, what's the point of building mermen if there are no water villages?
Fate is like an unpopular restaurant in which odd waiters come and give you things you didn't ask for and don't always like.

Hmm...yes, that is alot of damage, isn't it? We may have to look at reducing that...

Well, at the Bay of Pearls, they can control the sea, and facilitate escorting troops to kill the orc on the island (or try to kill the orc on the island themselves). Indeed, killing the orc on the island is almost impossible without mermen.

In later scenarios, they can also be useful: they can be put in the moat around the castle at the Valley of Death for defensive purposes, and they are great for escorting Konrad across the river at the Ford of Abez.

Is there any point to them on multiplayer, though?

Only on scenarios with water.

E.g. in "The Princess of Wesnoth" there is a body of water, and a river. You could deploy mermen to obtain the village on the island, or you could deploy them into the river, to stop your enemy from crossing.

You mean the Princess' Battlefield, right?

Oh yeah, after playtesting again, I realized that the Shock Trooper's slow speed makes up for his incredible attack...

Speaking of MP games, I don't really like Merman being part of the Human lineup. It somehow breaks the atmosphere of medieval fantasy knightish town. BTW I love Shock Troops, they're my favourite unit so far in the game.

One question to Dave - why is there cap on unit advancing beyond level 2 in multiplayer games? It would be cool if units could reach lvl 3 in MP, no?

Not all units can advance to level 3 (choice between power now or later), in MP is rare to see 2nd level units and much harder to see 3rd level ones (I only saw once a troll warrior)

I understand. Um, since there's no lvl 3 upgrade for the shock trooper, can I propose one? Stoic Champion, he will get slight minimum damage bonus, and will be harder to hit for 10%. He will get nice shiny armor (I volounteer to do the gfx).

Sure, you can do the graphics for it and we'll add it :)

In multiplayer games units do occassionally advance to 2nd level... and usually after that they get killed, fast.

If one side gets 2-3 2nd level units that side becomes really powerful... they usually don't get to advance to 3rd level before the game ends (more powerful side wins). This "slow" experience gaining is good, focus in the game is on the Campaign playing.
