The One Font (to rule them all)

Post by miyo »

I have been using Bitstream Vera in place of bluebold.ttf and I think it looks better. It is not a "fantasy font" but it the font is really nice and clean one.

Maybe screen borders could be decorated with little elvish writing?

Can you post a screenshot with the new font?
Screen decorations is bein done ... the current version of images used in the game is one older than mine :-) ...
The tengwar font is a good idea but I think that some kind of personal style (away from Tolkien or too much known franchises) is better.

Heres and example, Wesnoth 0.3.4 using Bitstream Vera Bold

And yes, it looks well, but i think it can look better (with smaller size or another font).

After a little change on menu.cpp,

Code: Select all

const int menu_font_size = 12;
  static const int message_font_size = 12;
  static const int caption_font_size = 16;
And using Bitstream Vera (normal)...

I like the font, but who holds the copyright, and under what terms can it be redistributed?

I definitely think that we want to avoid using any 'fancy' looking fonts.

Also, should the font used be a setting according to the language being used?

I like the idea of using the Elvish font somewhere, I'm just not sure where :)

Read here: Bitstream Vera

Bitstream Vera fonts are included in Debian main - so it is DFSG free.
