new unit idea: dwarvish sprayer

Post by philippe »

a new idea for a dwarf thunderer getting "evolved"
next to thunderguard,you could have a new unit named
dwarvish gunner or sprayer, a unit with 30 hp,steadfast and movement 4 or 3
with the attack stats:
handaxe:5-2
and gunner:3-8(or 10)(a machingegun in the form of a mg42)
the meaning of this unit would be a defender on the ranged part.
and a fighter who will always do a little bit damage on the ranged part.

The dwarvish guns are supposed to be equivalent to those from about the 15th century our time.

Machine guns, or even multi-shot pistols, were not invented until IIRC the 19th, although it might be the 18th, century.

I don't think the, realism wise, it would make sense... but, it is true that WINR.

I can make a drake that functions as a machine gun though, As they aren't machinery but organic weapons with frenzied breath.

Leonardo Da Vinci designed a gatling gun, but of course it was never built (though it could have been even with the technology then available, unlike many of his designs, it would have jammed way too easily for practical use. I suspect he knew this).

Multi-shot pistols were built in the 18th century, but they used full multiple barrels and so were very heavy specialty weapons. Rare multiple-barrelled rifles were built as emplacement weapons, but I do not know if they were ever actually used.

The conception of the metal cartrige in the 19th century was what really permitted multi-shot weapons to be practical.

I watched a show, "Young Blades" where an inventor dude built Leonardo's gun, and it worked!

You still have to remember that this isn't exactly Earth...this is Wesnoth. Why wouldn't it have a different history? For, example, why couldn't there be a crude gun with multiple sprayed shots that was invented there?

No, that would be like a Rune Master (but I like the idea) I agree with the first opinion, it wouldn't seem right to have a machine gun in Wesnoth. I really liked the Axe-thrower idea personally.

That should go in another topic. I would like to see lvl. 1-3 Rune Masters, I think that actually fits well with Dwarves.

My original intention for the upgrades of the Thunderer was to give it two lines:

Thunderer -> Thunderguard -> Stormguard
(Essentially the current line; single shot but tough and well-armoured)
or
Thunderer -> Flameguard -> Dragonguard
(Flamer rather than thunderstick; multiple lower-damage flame hits)

I even cooked up a Stormguard graphic which Neo substantially improved. I think I still have it lying around somewhere.

Let's see...the current Dragonguard has(IIRC) 40-1, how 'bout making a rapid fire variant that does 10-4, or even 5-8, or less, because of the multi-attack(IMHO) advantage.

Maybe it should have a better melee attack.
