Era of Flight

Post by Kuolema »

Hi guys, I am creating a faction which is comprised of birds. I have done a lot of brainstorming and have come up with a variety of units. In addition to the ones below I'm thinking of creating an owl unit as well, but I'm not sure exactly what its use would be. As you can see, the Nightingale units are used as healers, the Eagles are fighters, the Falcons are scouts, and the Vultures are...well something else XD.
Basically, the biggest problem is that I don't have a unit with good ranged attacks, and I don't know what kind of ranged attacks could be used by birds :S. Please comment if you have any suggestions and/or feedback for my existing units.

As much as I love that movie, I'm not sure that would be... particularly practical XD

Phoenix magical flame of revival ashes. good, there's a fire ranged attack. also, any big wing bird can get winged tornado! :) You just need to watch a couple of episodes of pokemon.

Maybe the nightingale could sing a song that kills their enemies. :lol2:

Suggestions for units include hawks, crows, ravens, pheasants, and peacocks.

First off, thanks for the feedback :)
I had actually considered both of those ideas...im just not sure which birds would be good to use...the nightingale already has a ranged song attack, but its not particularily good because it is a healing unit...can anyone suggest a good songbird? Perhaps one with a harsher call than other birds?
As for the hurricane idea, thats kind of what i was going for with the harpy eagle...would that be sufficient as a main ranged attack if i gave it to another unit?
Thanks once again!

Some kind of wren maybe. I don't know about harsh, but they are songbirds

The birds could use rocks, eggs, and bird poo for ranged attacks...

ever heard of a razorbird? I can't remember from which legends, but there are definetily some about birds with feathers that are as sharp as arrows. There's also a thunderbird, which was never in wesnoth before. You could also make gusts of wind an attack for birds with big wings.

There's no reason that eagles should have steadfast. Dauntless (reverse steadfast) would suit the unit better, although I think an ostrich or emu would be a good fighter/defender for a bird faction because of their size, and penguins would make good swimmers should you decide to add them.

It is aleady in the EOM, if you level up an air element to a razorbird and you level up again.

No problem; it's still good to have this unit included. It's even better since we need less balancing and art work on this unit, if JW allow to.
