Autumn Kingdoms Era
Hi everyone. I've been working on a campaign that I have recently re-uploaded onto the add-on server. As the campaign is set in an entirely different setting, I've had to create a new set of units. I haven't gotten a lot of feedback on unit balancing, which is understandable since the campaign doesn't have a lot to work with just yet. I've decided to post what I've developed so far for the era in hopes of getting some feed back on balancing and other miscellaneous issues. An important aspect of this setting is the lack of magic. I'm trying to see how far I can push a medieval-ish setting without resorting to magic while still keeping the factions varied and interesting.
The setting is to have five main factions. General information on the factions can be found here: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=20549, so I won't bother typing everything out again.
The first faction that I've completed are the Weydians. Much of Weydia is covered in hills and mountains. Because of this, they focus primarily on solid infantry units, some of which are adept at fighting on rocky terrain.
The unit tree is below:
This faction is rather straightforward, with a boring progression line. Almost all of Weydia's units have rather high resistances but they're a rather slow faction and lack any real mobility. I have given the Patrol Runners and Border Runners skirmisher, but am thinking of removing that to emphasize the slow pace of the faction. Weydia has a rather poor cavalry set.
Here's a detailed breakdown of the units:
-----
The Kingdom of Vermaeliss fields lighter units that wear less protection and lack the resistances of their Weydian counterparts. Their units tend to have more strikes and are a little bit faster. Vermaeliss units focus on dealing a high level of damage very quickly, hoping to eliminate threats before they can gather. This comes at the expense of defence and hence most of their units are rather fragile.
Here's a detailed unit breakdown:
-----
The Solyani are an unusual faction. They have a large recruitment list and many of their units begin at level 0. Their unit list is very versatile, with some units fighting well during the day while others fight well at night. Since most of the Solyani's units start at level 0, they're rather cheap to recruit and are quite expendable. This is to emphasize the mercenary nature of many of their troops. My intent is for the faction to be played by recruiting large numbers of expendable units that support a small group of more elite troops.
Unit breakdown:
-----
Another faction that I have already written is the Revolutionaries/Guerillas faction. This faction isn't really intended to be a proper faction and I had only coded them for the purposes of including them in the campaign, but I might as well post them here anyway. I didn't have any intention of balancing them, but I might do so later on if people find them interesting.
-----
There are also two other factions left that I have not yet sketched out at the moment. I plan on doing so once I have completed the current campaign. I haven't started the process of completing these factions in an Era package yet but once the current campaign is complete and I start working on others, I will probably write up a coherent era first.
Sadly, I can't post spreadsheets on the forums, as I had written one up for all of the units that I have finished designing so far. I'll post the units up individually as they come.
-----
As always, I appreciate any feedback and suggestions you may have.
EDIT:
I should mention that there is no art for these units at the moment. I've been using placeholder sprites for all of the factions that I have written thus far and don't foresee there being any art for these units for some time to come, at least until the coding for the current campaign is finished.
EDIT:
Thanks to Mist's advice, I have now uploaded a zip file of the spreadsheet containing all of the units I have written so far.

Re: Autumn Kingdoms Era
Looks awesome.
The Revolutionaries should be a balanced-out, major force in my opinion though.

Re: Autumn Kingdoms Era
I wouldn't mind at all if someone wanted to take a look, especially if it would help them critique the unit lists. It's a bit of a pain not being able to post it on the forum, since that would make it much easier, but I could PM it to anyone who was interested.Out of curiosity, would you be willing to send this via PM for interested individuals?

You can zip the spreadsheets. Forum won't accept the .xls or whatever the format, but it will allow zipped ones.Devrailis Colandore wrote:I wouldn't mind at all if someone wanted to take a look, especially if it would help them critique the unit lists. Thanks for the tip! I should have thought of that when I first tried to upload the file. The zip is now on the first post.Mist wrote:You can zip the spreadsheets. Forum won't accept the .xls or whatever the format, but it will allow zipped ones.
