GIMP getting the OSS competition it badly needs
http://pinta-project.com/
We really need another game in town. I've actually had a lot of good things to say about Paint.net - it's on my short-list of mandatory installs on a new PC, amongst other things because it's got a mac-like level of 'ease of use'. Good thing to see a clone of it coming to linux, too, because this is exactly the kind of program linux needs.
Edit: Well, [censored], looks like it's also for macs, too! Nice!

Another program "simpler" & far less featureful than gimp is Krita; it never reached the popularity of Gimp though. You couldn't even change the hue/saturation of the selected pixels with a slider there, iirc.
