Re: Orc Portrait Series
No - they're intended for use in campaigns much like the old set of 5 orc portraits - there are so many generic orcish villains that single portraits for each unit would result in a lot of orcs talking (apparently) to themselves.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Grunt #7 is looking great otherwise, but seems to have somewhat "sleepy eyes" a bit like grunt #5 originally did. The rest of the portrait looks like he's really focused on something, yet the eyes give the appearance that he's more like daydreaming.
Re: Orc Portrait Series
Kudos on the way you used light for #8. Also, I think expression for #7' is just great.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
All the latest versions are committed for the archer, and last two/three grunts.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Final version for grunt #8, the last of the grunt series !
Light levels underwent massive changes in order to remain consistent with the other orcs (I felt the earlier version was over-saturated, with rather unnatural lighting)
Next, the slayer. I'm posting him with a quick rough lightsource.
TSI, when committing him would you please make either #7 or #8 the generic warlord portrait ? Their looted plate armor and nasty attitude befit the role better than the current portrait.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
If it's between #7 or #8 then probably it should be #7 due to the more standard weaponry. They all look great though.
I really love the slayer portrait and looking forward to seeing it finished. One suggestion to make it clear that he is wearing a mask would be to have it look freshly painted: maybe a little reflective but not too garish?
Thanks for the great orcs!

Re: Orc Portrait Series
8 is very cool - as i already said, i love the lochaber axe.
However, grunt #4 is already the generic Warlord portrait - I think it works a bit better than either of the other two you suggested, given that it has both the helmet and the two swords. The other two are better for dialogue (and I'll get #8 in today as long as not major issues are noted), but i'd prefer to leave the generics as they are now, if you don't mind?

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Perhaps slightly flaking paint instead? Several of the grunts have stains on their armour, chipped or notched weapons, and some tearing along the edge of their cloak. The slayer himself has a bit missing from his left sleeve. It seems like fresh paint might clash a little with the worn condition of the gear in the other portraits.Sapient wrote:I really love the slayer portrait and looking forward to seeing it finished. Re: Orc Portrait Series
In my opinion, the current Warlord image should go to the Warrior, the 7th grunt to the Warlord, and the current Warrior one to the Grunt
Just sayin'

Re: Orc Portrait Series
Na, they can remain as they are, I'm finally ok with it.
Regarding the slayer's mask, I intended to go for a worn out look rather than fresh paint. Though blood might be another option.

Re: Orc Portrait Series
for the mask, you could also make the paint more random, as if he had a mask, and then just smeared paint and/or blood across it

Re: Orc Portrait Series
I would love to give any crits or suggestions if i could but then i would have to analyze the pictures for hours so I'll just stare for awhile. And drool.
Sometimes we must be hurt in order to grow, fail in order to know, lose in order to gain, and sometimes we must have to be broken so we can be whole again...

I'm finally admitting that this will be a very long (if not permanent) Wesbreak. Thank y'all for the great times, and may Wesnoth rise to become one of the most popular games on the planet.
