about the age, i don't know - i changed nothing about the face, i guess i could make part of the jaw line more sagging. but to tell the truth, i don't have much motivation to do that; this is the 8th version of her, i post here....
I think that the younger feel comes from the lack of head wrappings. Or at least the head looks completely different without it, even if it is the same head/face.
I don't know what it is about head-wrappings like that, but no matter who they're on, they just (IMO) make the person look awkward. Whether on men/women, or good/bad looking people; for some reason it just doesn't work for me.

 Perfect. Let's keep her.

Those are absolutely amazing Kitty! How do you manage to pack so much detail into their clothing? The faces are really well done too and show a lot of the characters personality. All in all, consider me deeply impressed, I can only hope to someday draw as well as you do.

The only thing I found a little off in any of your portraits was the way the female silver mages hand was grasping her staff. I think the hand should be extended a little further, as there is currently not quite enough room to get a proper grab on the staff my opinion. I made a quick mockup to show what I'm talking about.
Maybe I'm just being too nitpicky :? .

melon - thank you for your comment!
regarding the level of detail it is a simple question of working size. my original resolution is about 5 times bigger than the final portrait.

about the hand: i can see what you mean. i intended the sleeve of the sleeve nearer to the viewer to cover part of the knuckles of the rear hand. i guess that gets kind of lost in the shadows... but it doesn't bother me enough to revise it, i'm afraid.

What confused me more about this picture was this:

(green line is the way it looks like the hand is gripping something, blue is actual staff).

i finally got around to doing a new portrait - the male mage of light.
the design is basically the same as his female companion's. he just has the staff instead of a flail. i imagined him to be pretty emaciated for he is that far aloof from the normal physical world that he has started to radiate light.
i'm glad that he is the penultimate mage - i slowly ran out of poses with a staff... :annoyed:

@ jozrael: thank you for the comment! but i think you got some things wrong - the staff doesn't lean against her hand (as your green line suggests) but against her lower arm, the wrist is bent slightly.

I love that staff. He looks very nice.
