Wiki translations
I know wiki should be a free medium, but without offical guidelines how to refer to other language versions from the default (english) one, we might have a problem pretty soon. There are at least three translations ongoing now and fourth just started, so just imagine how will it look when we all start to reffer to our work as French team here. Some ideas or should we do as we please?

I guess there are not so many wiki pages in other languages, so we do not have to worry about it. I tried to translate some information in Slovak, but then I realized it is too much work, and information quickly becomes old. Unless there are at least 5 people willing to take care about the wiki, it is IMHO not worth doing the translation; or maybe just one page about the game (where you will have to update hyperlinks to download), and one for new translators.
I decided to prefix all Slovak pages with a language code; this will also help to put them together in the alphabetical list of wiki pages. So they look like this:
(sk) Hlavná stránka
(sk) Návod
(sk) PrÃÂbehy
(sk) Preklad
and because such URLs are long to type and difficult to remember, I also created a short redirect to main page:
http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/sk
So these are my "guidelines", and anyone is free to follow them.
With a lot of translated pages, I think this would be the best navigation: each page should have hyperlinks to its variants in other languages; each language should have a "site map" with links to all translated pages. But first we need those translated pages.

Hi all,
I'm new here. I spent few hours on Wesnoth and I enjoyed to play this game ! So I need to learn more about rules now and I wonder... Does a french translation exist for the On-line manual ? http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Play
I was there but it is empty.

When you create a wiki account, you can click "Special pages" and "All pages". Then you will see the list of all pages... it is not so many of them, less then 100 together (in all languages, that is 90+% of them are English). By the name you can guess which ones are French.
Then you can for example create the page "fr" containing links to all French pages, and translate some more pages, if you want.

AFAIK at least the page names should be named like this:
http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/Play <- the base english version
http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/FR:Play <- the french version
http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/PL:Play <- the polish version
...using the language codes in the front to denote the language. Using this should make things cleaner in the long run, I think. At least this was the method that was used for the polish translations of some pages, IIRC.
