One more idea: since you're doing symmetrical maps, you could experiment with using alias terrains (those that are just graphically different, like grassland, savannah, road, dirt and forest, snowed-over forest) to start making different parts of your map slightly different while they still play the same. Simply slightly changing the roads will have a visual effect, too.
Then in a next stage you could start exchanging single hexes for terrains that play similarly for most units - such as exchanging snow for sand and road for bridges or river ford etc. You could then make one half of the map slightly in favour of some units (by using more snow), and another slightly more in favour of others (by using more desert). But these things have to be played with carefully :).

ok i have made another 2v2 map not as advanced as you hoped :wink: but yet more varied than the previous ones (actually this one is my favourite)..I used alias terrains to make it a bit different from the others (snow, mountains, and snow forest in the north near the mountains then normal grassland near the roads until you reach the sea where you get "warmer" terrains, such as savannah, sand, tropical forest and such..) No villages to middle except for the island which can be attacked by all players (because of bridges and river fords).. So each player does not have to fight even to conquer the minimum amount of villages but can focus on positiong his troops better..

Because actually it's hard to make a non symmetrical map which is balanced and playable.. Most of the maps you get by default with the game (if not all) ARE symmetrical maps and were carefully tested and revised to be as balanced as possible.. If you want something non-symmetrical you can just try the random map generator, but often as a result you don't get a very fair map, and you end up with a faction getting an advantage over the others..

I play multiplayer a lot and these maps are the result of my (although short) experience playing with other experienced players who generally don't like default maps and want something "different" to have more fun..

Anyway i may try to make something non symmetrical as a challange, but i can't promise anything :) :wink:

i explain : (i make symetric maps too :)

they are symetric N/S and E/W, it's too much

one symetric way is enough (central sym, like charge, blitz, morituri...)

so they are not so ugly :oops:

but i test them to see fair play and interest, thanks for doint them

Ok already discussed this in multiplayer as you said... i respect your idea and i may think about it, still i don't completely agree with some of your points..
Anyway i'll keep making maps when i can, and i might take into consideration making something "less" symmetric" :wink: :D
