It's most likely the latter, just a random name. I suggest thinking of it as something like a cataphract in training?

The current names are not necessarily a reference to anything real or specific since they were chosen entirely via forum polls, though "Burner" is not what I would've chosen given the already strong association with the Drake unit. Said poll for the Burner line is here, for reference.
