Jinnaraka's "Cold War" (mix of SurvivalX and Creep War)

Post by mx-- » September 22nd, 2012, 2:13 pm

Hi, people!
I present you the "Cold War" map, developed by [Jinnaraka] (http://forums.wesnoth.org/memberlist.ph ... e&u=122090) for Wesnoth v1.6 and adapted to v1.10 by me.
In addition to correcting errors, I made some changes. Now Guards are less strong; useless chests are replaced with usefull potions and artefacts; and I added a common enemy "Observer" (side 9).
And one more thing. All these pre-launch instructions for beginners - nobody reads them! Players hurry to start game, and then ask each other: "What is there to do? How to use Shops? Why the enemy did attack few times in one turn? I am dead, it means I must leave?" and so on. Or just leaved the game, nothing in it without realizing. So, instead of long pre-launch instructions, I use relatively short labels on the map. I think this is a correct approach.

Howto install the map:
1. Just unpack the archive
Cold_War.zip

into your addon directory.
2. Enjoy!

I think you should move your label-tips to hexes, which is covered by shroud at the start. Reading of blue text on white snow is not convenient.

You're right, thank you, see changes in the next release after 1 - 2 days.

P.S. Update: bug fixed.

Just move start messages to objectives, then player can read them later.

Objectives already contains a lot of information.
I didn't read it all. It is generously colored and long.

The 1st rule of the Internet: Nobody, never and nowhere does click to read any documentation.

Right again. But I don't know, may I fully replace this Jinnaraka's text or not.

Those who want to know can read later not only at start, those that do not want wont do it no matter how you show it.

Hehe, in Soviet Union, awaiting for his queue to the Shop, everybody will read all the labels before his eyes ;-)
