"Special choice" of faction

Post by Paxe »

I would like to suggest another starting way for multiplayer aditional to existings:

Now any player can choose between any faction or random faction. If you choose
any faction your oponent/s or partners can see which faction you have chosen and
if you choose random no one knows, even yourself till the game has started. I must
admit that I love choosing random, even at survivals...

I suggest another one, something between both I have explained. We could be able
to choose the faction, our oponent/s or partner/s would know that have chosen but
will not be able to see which faction.

In some players have no sense this cause they allways play with same leader and
if they "hide" it, you allready know he has chosen liutenant... I do not write nicks...

Well, what do you think about this?

Sincerely

The MP developers think that Default MP is balanced, including the balance of "random vs. chosen faction".

Choosing a faction has the advantage that you get to chose your leader, too, and that you can play with the faction you like (and maybe are better in).
Choosing random has the advantage that your enemy can't recruit specifically against your faction, until your first unit is spotted by his scouts.

You want both advantages, but this would be unfair.

I wouldn't mind a "hide all faction choices" or "show all ..." for instance.

Then again the subject has been discussed to death and back.

Still I frankly wouldn't call it "balanced". Specially when it has been mentioned that chosing Random is supposed to be advantageous, as that provides an "incentive" for players to learn all factions rather than specialize in a particular one.

Anyway, I no longer care that much. Winning/losing is more likely to be decided by the skill difference than the "random vs chosen" difference.

I do not want both advantages. When chosing faction and "hiding" it
to your oponent he has to do same; if not, as you wrote I would have
a slightly advantage.

When playing this way, both players or the four players in 2vs2 games
would do the same.

Is just a sugestion. I am happy as I wrote before with random chosing.

i personally liked the idea of a "pool of factions"

basically u select what u could possibly get if u set Random... maybe only 3 or 4 of the factions
and of course your opponent gets to as well

example:
My random factions would be:
Drakes, Loyals, Elves, Undead

so my opponent could have a random pool of 4 as well like:
Undead, Orcs, Dwarves, Loyalist

and then we each randomly get one of those factions

this was not my idea... leocrottas i think? anyways i think it would be a cool option to have and pretty easy to implement and of course it would have to be a Setting for when creating the game (so people know its turned on)
