3 epic multiplayer siege maps

Post by Onne »

I've been messing with the wesnoth_editor recently, here are three of my tries :) They are all quite similar, probably because I was in the mood for big epic battles.

"Western Invasion" is my idea of the battle for Weldyn, be it for multiplayer. The map takes the true Wesnoth geography into account. (5 vs 4 map!!)
EDIT: Because it doesn't correspond with the current Weldyn maps, it no longer claims to portray the Battle for Weldyn.

"Western Uprising" is a smaller version of the Siege with even more carnage. 4 vs 4 this time. Please try adjusting village gold. ;)

"The Siege" is the most balanced. It is a 3 vs 4 map.

Enjoy, and feel free to comment.

er... have you looked at the CVS EI version of this location? turin already has 3 maps based on the area around Weldyn[1]. I think his maps make more sense since in them Weldyn is only 7 castle tiles instead of twenty, and there are roads extending to all directions instead of only west (Weldyn isn't supposed to be the easternmost city of Wesnoth is it?). Also, your maps seem inconsistent...

[1]The Siege of Weldyn(HttT), Approaching Weldyn(EI), The Siege of Weldyn(EI)[2]

[2]Actually there is a fourth(Weldyn Attack- EI), but it is on a much smaller scale.

I tried to have a look at the map "Weldyn Under Attack" from the Eastern
Invasion campaign, but it wouldn't open. And i can't seem to find the other
Weldyn maps in CVS... Sad. It would be good to be able to have a look at
them. I send a message to turin asking for some help though :)

Anyway, there seems to have been some confusion...
My map was never intended to be put in the Eastern Invasion campaign, it
was only intended as an epic multiplayer siege map. The two other maps i
included are pure multiplayer siege maps and have nothing to do with
Weldyn. Reading my original post, i must say i should have made that more
clear.

Furthermore, I believe that Weldyn is more than just a castle, it is a city. It
would be a bit strange if the capital of Wesnoth is as big as the
encampments people have been using from the start.
In my map I tried giving Weldyn the structure of a medieval city. (In that
respect i think the map of Elensefar is quite sad, for a proud city state it looks
rather dull.)

Finally about the roads: the roads correspond with cities in Wesnoth,
actually towards the east there is part of the great river, followed by
mountains and in the south east one other city. It seems rather desolate,
that's why i included no direct road from Weldyn towards there... Personal
preference i guess.

That's it, thanks for commenting :

er, since turin is not dead, don't expect a reply for a while.

the problem is that this map doesn't look like it could be in the same location as the CVS map.

anyway, I know that turin has good arguments for why the map he made makes more sense. I just can't remember them

(BTW why do you have returns at the end of each line?)

Ok... I'll just drop the AKA the battle for weldyn then and keep it as a mere multiplayer map :)

Thanks for letting me know turin isn't dead ;) Well, i'll be expecting a reply from turin sometime in the distant future then...

(i like the returns for large blocks of text, makes it more readable)

But harder to quote. For example:
You don't want to quote this. You want
to quote this.
->
You want
to quote this.
Yes I do. But why is there a two-word line now?
