A few things-

Why would you want people to play default era with 40%? It's a ridiculous mess a lot of the time and overemphasises luck pockets (anomalies very often lead to leveling on 40 exp, which "cements" and exhagerates the luck pocket). You also may want to do some reading/research on "player one advantage," particularly in regards to 1v1s. You can't just put villages in the middle of a 1v1 and expect a fair match (between good players). Granted, it won't be as bad with certain faction combinations, but it will almost always, at the very least, give a big edge to a P1 Knalgan, Loyalist- possibly Northerner, Rebel player. Any mirror match will be similarly uneven. Drakes and Undead are going to be generally disadvantaged on a map this boxed in, as well.

Anyways-

Despite the balance being very bad, it's a nice idea, and the simplicity and creativity are appealing.

Still, it IS a very cool idea. Kind of like trench warfare, with each player trying to push the other(s) back. In 2v2, you even have a support trench sending in reinforcements!
Out with the old, in with the new.

I was so excited I thought this thread was going to be about the game Deadlock, god those were great, underappreciated games :(

You refering to Deadlock Planatary Conquest (with the Tarth and Relu and such) I still have our CD for that game. None of our computers can run it without crashing frequently, but I still have it.

I did too! And I never even played them. I was hoping to learn more about them. :D

Deadlock 2 works just fine under Windows XP and Vista for me. I just wish the netcode had worked since win95. If it did I woudl still play it. I don't think it ever really worked that well in the first place IIRC. Would make such a fantastic turn based MP game.

A very small bit better, but you have to realize that Drakes will get slaughtered 99 percent of the time in a narrow corridor (like this) with nowhere to run. Undead will also have a very difficult time against many factions.

The deadlock 1v1 could really only ever be balanced for a mirror match.
