Everlasting Night

Post by Com783 »

Hello Ladies and Gentlemen,

First time where I heard this masterpiece of music I was just like wow... this would perfectly fit into the Wesnoth theme.

I am talking about this song: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-9oelduYFIc

This was made in 2 months work and the creator just started making music which is just amazing.
At last I have to say, that it sounds all the way a bit very similar to the Wesnoth music, but overall it's worth to discuss.

So, what do you think?

Greetings
If you want to know, who I am... I give you an old name... old? Today? Yes, but... before 6 years, there was a map creator... And now I am back. Thanks to Baufo :)

In the Youtube page that you linked, there is a link to download the song: http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/486632 . Here, the track is licensed as Creative Commons NC-BY-SA. Such license is incompatible with Wesnoth, as all our music tracks must be licensed under GPL version 2, as stated here: http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=14&t=2015 .
So, unless the author is willing to re-license it under the terms of GPL v2, the answer can only be no.
Current maintainer of these add-ons, all on 1.16:
The Sojournings of Grog, Children of Dragons, A Rough Life, Wesnoth Lua Pack, The White Troll (co-author)

I asked the author of the song and that's what he answered:
Wow, I'm really glad you enjoyed the song.

This is the first time I heard about the game, and I'm very intrigued, especially about the way it is constantly developed.I thank you sincerely for the awesome oportunity.

I'm definitely interested. But I would like to understand the terms. All I have to do is agree with the use of the song, and It will automaticaly be under GPL?Or will it have to be uploaded to another site?
After all, Newgrounds only seems to use Creative Commons.

If you could get back to me it would be great.

GPL-ing stuff is pretty easy, you just publish it somewhere with a note that it's "licensed under the terms of the GNU Public License", or something like that. Then it magically becomes GPL :)

I wouldn't have high hopes for getting this in, though. It's an indeed very nice song, but it utilizes some very modern accords, while Wesnoth music is rather of romantic-classical style. Of course, my opinion matters little in this topic, only a Lord of Music has the right to accept/refuse tracks.
