As long as you comply with the GNU GPL (to the extent that it applies).

Search for GNU GPL v2.0.

It says basically that you are free to use, copy, modify, and distribute the game as long as you make the source code for your changes available to anyone and grant others the same freedoms to use, copy, modify, and redistribute anything you make.

However, I don't know if the copyright requirements apply if you are just going to base your game on the wesnoth characters, locations, events, etc. No one around here is a definitive expert on copyrights vs trademarks etc., as far as I know.
Hope springs eternal.

Yeah - if you use the Wesnoth graphics, music, or code, you need to make them redistributable, but if you use the characters, setting, or concept, I have no idea.

I suspect someone does, though. Ask the FSF!

First, the proper URL is http://www.enterbrain.co.jp/tkool/RPG_XP/eng/, index.htm opens a 404 page in Japanese.

Second, RPG Maker XP is commercial software, and you need to buy a license to be able to distribute your work. Either way, it's not possible to distribute GPL content in that manner.

Third, and perhaps most importantly, from the screenshots I can see that you can basically make some Final Fantasy clone or whatever are those Japanese RPG called, which isn't exactly like Wesnoth.

Those are screenshots of the RPG maker itself (and probably of demo games made using it), not of what LAK'N plans to do with it. From what I can tell, LAK'N hasn't even started to make his RPG yet.

This does not defeat the objection of not distributing GPLed content, though.

making peace

Post by LAK'N »

It's true, i don't have it, for it, i asked first before...
It's true too, it's not my idea have the rpg as a "final fantasy".
The screenshots in the web of enterbrain are of demos, it isn't the real potential of the program.
For the license, it's my doubt, for it i was asking.
Thanks for your time, and sorry if i worth you.
P.S.: i think the license is for the program itself, not the games maked in it, but i don't know for sure...

The web is only of the rpgmaker xp site.
There are more game making software. There are some free programs, also.
