My Project

Post by Polaris »

Hi there,

after millions of years of fear ;), I finally found the will to start my own open-source-game-project: ASGARD.
I am currently in phase 0 of the project: ideas are ready, first chapters of the storyboard too but I am gathering people to work with me.

The game official description will be as follow:

ASGARD
- Leading The Battles In The North -

In the role of a mighty Valkyrie, journey thorugh frozen landscapes to regain control of Asgard, fallen under unknown dominion. Watch your Valkyrie wander through snowy forests, mysty ruins ,heavens and more, while fighting with her spear the minions of evil and frost, such as Fenris the wolf and its clan...

To regain power over Asgard is your responsability... Will you dare to try?

The game will be extremely similar to Shadow of the Beast for gameplay: it is essentially a platform game with many adventure pieces.
It will be written in C++ with SDL support.
Differently from SOTB, the gameplay will be extremely fast in fights (the Valkyrie is mighty and fast when wielding its enormous spear!!!) and puzzles & adventure elements will be more complex.
More important, the various game sections will be heavily chained by an addictive story.

What I am in need is (more or less):

* ONE skilled graphician, capable of represent the norsk landscapes and the elements of the game in a very effective manner. To get an example of the graphic level I would like to reach, consider that I would like to have the main character to be very similar to Lenneth valkyrie of Valkyrie Profile (http://www.tri-ace.com/product/vp/index.html).

* skilled musicians, to produce an inspiring music, reminescent of wagner/grieg atmospheres

* someone who could handle website stuff

Anybody interested, please contact me - by replying on this thread, by pm or by email at the email address masterofnebulahfrost@hotmail.com.
I'll also be grateful for hints for places to re-post this announce.

Thanks in advance!

Sounds cool.

Is that huge image to the left your avatar? If so, how did it let you use it? I thought it only allowed 80x80 images and lower.

Also, perhaps this should be in "Game Development"?
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

Uhmmm... I don't really know. If moderator think so, well, just move the topic!

One quick note, fwiw. Obviously, given my time constraints, I can't help.

However, uhm, there is one suggestion I would lay down - the music you listed would likely work very well for wesnoth, as well. Such work could be shared by both projects.

So go bug Aleksi about that. Music made for such a purpose might sit around, but I think people should try making a bunch of music that is not specific to any single wesnothian race, but is just vaguely appropriate to a fantasy theme.

People will find specific uses for it that the author had not thought of.

I am really sorry about this, I know you are really skilled :(

This is an extremely good idea. I really think that Wesnoth levels settled in icy & forested landscapes deserve an inspiring theme... What about leading a paladins' charge while listening to Wagner's "Ride Of The Valkyries"?
It will surely be great!

Well.... While awaiting (hopely...) for a graphician to help me, I am currently experimenting with SDL...

Here a first look to a adventure/arcade based on Wesnoth graphics... ;)

Finally, online with a temporary main page!

Well, Asgard has now a dedicated website on my current server...

Check out (along with my poor-attempt-to-use-GIMP logo) at http://polaris.kcmo.net/Asgard

Soon to come: my experiments with SDL and Wesnoth graphics, storyline, description of the new (hopely) spear fighting system adopted in Asgard.

Byez!
