Announcing Star Wars: Galactic Heroes Total Conversion mod

Post by javo »

Hi,

I have developed the ultimate Star Wars total conversion mod for Battle for Wesnoth. My understanding is that it is kosher to post details here, as long as I don't post copyrighted pics, or upload any intellectual-property breaking files.

Here is the list of features:
  • Races: Human, Droid, Zabrak, Selkath, Wookiee, Mandalorian, Bothan, Clone, Yuuzhan Vong, Wampa, Rancor and more!
Classes: Over 100, including Jedi Padawan, Jedi Knight (3 types), Jedi Master (6 types), Jedi Council Member (6 more types), Sith Apprentice, Sith Knight (3 types), Sith Lord & Dark Lord (3 types each)
    Over 500 Race/Class combinations!!!
Blaster bolt deflection and redirection by lightsabers!
Dynamic variations as units move between space and land! Luke Skywalker lifts of Tatooine and the image (and stats) switch to an X-Wing unit variation!!
    Dozens of new flavorful traits
    Improved amla
    Completely overhauled economic/recruitment system
Sith betray each other, both by assassinating each other, and by all out rebellions (they switch sides)
Conflagrations! Capture Coruscant and see how quickly a Galactic Rebellion forms (see how many worlds slip through your grasp). Oh no, the Yuuzhan Vong are coming! Mandalore has united the Mandalorian clans!
    Death Stars!
    Super Star Destroyers!
    Bounty Hunters!
Jedi fall to the dark side! It's more likely if they have certain traits (like ambitious or aggressive!)
Corruption/Redemption mechanics. Pesky Jedi have a powerful new recruit? Send your Sith Lord Corruptor to turn him do the dark side! Wayward Padawan? Send a Jedi Master to bring him back into the fold!
Death Stars! - They destroy planets!!
If you level a Jedi/Sith high enough, they can become Emperor/Grand Master of the Jedi Order.
Difficulty settings that actually make the game challenging - non human controlled units get the AI trait, which confers a configurable level of awesomeness to the unit for extra challenge (currently +1 dam/+25% HP)
There is something satisfying about landing your favored Sith Apprentice on Dathomir and testing his mettle against a rancor! Or sending a disloyal Sith Apprentice to face two!
Dynamic galaxy start - worlds are assigned by script at beginning of the game, no 2 games alike!
Millenium Falcon! (the smuggler class has a millenium falcon as his ship)
I have art for all of the units, but unfortunately I cannot share as I don't have the rights to the artwork.

I love playing it, it is the only game I'm playing right now besides Europa Universalis III. The replay value is incredible because the galaxy is so dynamic.

I want 10,000 people to play the mod, but am not sure the best way to start deploying it. I did half the development a couple years ago on version 1.5x and have continued the last few months. Unfortunately, it is still on version 1.5x.

Well as you said, you can't distribute it here. You might be able to start your own site and hide under "fair use".

You can get good free hosting (no forced ads, lots of space and features) at x10hosting. And you can get a free .co.cc domain. Blogger+Google Docs or Github are also good options for free websites like this.

Since this isn't actually a faction or era that can be gotten on our site, I'm going to move this thread over to Game Development. Also there wouldn't be any problem with you posting a few screenshots there.

Thanks for the help!

Good point. Should I upgrade to 1.8.x or 1.9.x?

That would be wise. 1.8 is what most people probably play now. 1.9 is I guess the cutting edge of Wesnoth development.

I'm a member of the Rebel Squadrons, a Star Wars club that places all the Star Wars games out there and often makes mods/missions for Xwing, Tie Fighter, etc...

I think we'd be pretty interested in getting to play this....

Any way to talk further or obtain a version?

This does sound interesting. Hard to believe it will be balanced, but I'd give it a try.
