Soooo... what?
Games don't appear by magic you know. And games based on copyrighted material tend not to appear here at all...

I like that site, though I've never read the story in question. Also, if you like Star Trek vs Star Wars, you have to read this: http://bbs.stardestroyer.net/viewtopic. ... 04&start=0 (warning, it is very long. Really the Lord of the Rings of vs fanfiction).Braxton wrote:Hey, I was just thinking about the book http://sfdebris.com/unity.asp as a game.

Anyway, thespaceinvader, no need to point out the unpleasent realities of copyright law. It may be copyrighted, but that shouldn't stop us from hoping. Its not like anyone's suggesting we actually make it ourselves or anything. Just another "what if" thread.
I think a Star Trek vs Star Wars game would be an excellent idea, and I wonder why it hasn't occured to Paramount and Lucasfilms to try to make one by now. Its not like their haven't been crossover games before (the most notable would probably be the Alien vs Predator games), and its possible that a game based on the two largest and most iconic sci-fi franchises would be highly profitable. For that matter, Trek vs Wars mods have been attempted before (I'm pretty sure their's at least one for the Star Trek Armada games).
Well, I guess the company executives will pay the price for their lack of vision.*
*If you don't get the refference, you're probably not a Star Wars fan.

Right because there are just never enough of those threads. Not to mention, he just linked a site and pointed out he liked the books. The Great Rings wrote:Anyway, thespaceinvader, no need to point out the unpleasent realities of copyright law. Re: Star wars star trek game Idea.
As a follow-up to my last post, I can think of one obstacle besides copyright to making a Star Trek vs Star Wars game: balance. This breaks down into two sets of problems.
First, their's the rabid fan base of either series, many of whom take very hardline positions in the on-line vs debate. In short, the most likely customers for such a game would also be the most likely to be offended over how the game portrayed the faction's relative strength. For example, you will probably have people on one side claiming that Federation ships are completely immune to Star Wars turbolasers and that the Borg can adapt to anything, with people on the other side simultaneously claiming that a single Star Destroyer could destroy the Borg Collective. When the sides are that far apart, any attempt at balance would leave a lot of people rather angry. It doesn't matter so much with a fan-made game or mod, but an official game would, at least under Lucasfilm's policy, have some canon status.
Secondly, their is the actual and completely unimaginary disparity between certain factions, both in terms of the average level of each universe, and in terms of comparing certain factions within a universe. In Star Trek, for example, you have a scale of major factions running from guys not far above realistic modern tech (at least in terms of weapons power), to beings like the Q who time travel and bend reality with ease. Also, each universe's tech tends to work in different ways, and is often portrayed inconsistantly.
In short, balance issues would probably be rather difficult. That's not to say it couldn't be done, of course.
