Parallel Lich tracks?

Post by bruno »

While looking at TDH Liches I noticed there are two
fairly parallel Lich tracks. The normal one is:
Dark Adept => Necromancer => Lich
In TDH the main character uses:
Initiate => Deathmaster => Demilich => Dread Lich
Demilich used as an opponent in TRoW.
There is also a stand alone 4th level Lich also used in TRoW:
Ancient Lich

I didn't check campaings other than those that come
with wesnoth by default.

It seems like it would be possible to consolidate these
two lines. The only thing tricky is modifying Gwiti
in TDH to not have the option to become a dark
sorcerer and to allow him to go from lich to ancient
lich. I thought I saw an example of changing things
like this for a specific campaign, but I am not sure it
could be changed just for Gwiti and not other dark adepts
recruited in that campaign.

Bruno: Dread Lich split from Ancient Lich rather recently. Merging the lines would be against what has already been intentionally done.
It's all fun and games until someone loses a lawsuit. Oh, and by the way, sending me private messages won't work. :/ If you must contact me, there's an e-mail address listed on the website in my profile.

Yep. They're separate for the same reason there are two different trees for the Fighter->Commander->Lord and the Noble Fighter->Noble Commander-> Noble Lord, and n either of those trees can be recruited.

I know. I think it is odd that Initiates start out as undead instead
of progressing there.

How did it used to be? A Dread Lich seems to be very similar to
an Ancient Lich.

I am surpised by the direction things are moving. I would expect
that maintenance would be easier if there weren't completely
customized units for campaigns that were close to other mainline
units. I would have expected more common use with only a few
features established by the campaign. That way changes to the
base units would propogate to the campaign.

The Lich used to advance to the Ancient Lich (before v. 0.7)
Then, The Dark Hordes was added (0.7), and Gwiti advanced to the Ancient Lich and the regular Lich advanced to nothing
Then, the Dread Lich was recently added (0.9.3) so that Gwiti would be a self-contained line and not use the Ancient Lich.

wasn't there almost NO diffeerencer between, those two besids the specific heroes?
Oh no look out its a ray gun.
You should move to avoid the rays
the rays are coming out of the gun
if you are hit by the rays
you will be shot by the rays
the rays are fast so you should be fast to
can you win against the fast rays from the gun?

Exactly. Special units, with character-specific graphics, are used for heroes even when their stats are identical to those of other units.

I don't know. When I saw the title of this thread, I was thinking of magical tanks... parallel lich tracks. I guess if the lich upgrade is too powerful, you'd have to use halftracks.
